We continue looking at some of the top high school girls basketball players in Oklahoma for the current season.

Earlier, we listed several of the premier point guards in the state, along with some of the elite shooting guards

Now, we take a look at some of the top post players this season.

There are hundreds of standout girls basketball players in Oklahoma, and these lists are not intended to be comprehensive. If you know of any other post players worthy of fans’ attention in 2023-24, let us know.

In no particular order:

Dah’Myah Olden, 5-8, Jr., Holdenville

Averaging almost 14 points a night, the Wolverines' power forward has been a key reason for Holdenville’s success this year. During a recent stretch, the junior poured in more than 15 points in three straight contests. That includes 19 points in a win over Chandler.

Olivia Watkins, 6-1, Jr., Norman North

The sharp-shooting forward has been a focal point of the Lady Timberwolves' offense. Averaging 15 points and six rebounds, Watkins can stand out at the 3-point line and knock down shots or take her defenders off the dribble and get to the rim.

Caya Smith, 6-1, Sr., Putnam City West

The University of Oklahoma signee came into the season with high expectations. Looking to close out her career with a state championship, she has lived up to the hype. She was named the MVP of the Putnam City Invitational and the Jenks-Union Invitational and helped hand defending 6A champion Edmond North their first defeat of the season. She averaged 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Teague Muncy, 5-8, Sr., Dale

Since transferring to Dale from Amber-Pocasset, Muncy has fit right in with the defending 2A champions while averaging 14.6 points and eight rebounds per contest. At the Cashion County Line Tournament, she posted 17.3 points and five rebounds while converting 40 percent of her 3-point attempts.

In January she passed the 1,000 career point mark as well.

Mya Alston, 6-0, So., Mustang

After a breakout season as a freshman, Alston has raised her game during her sophomore year. Averaging 13 points, three rebounds, and two steals, she is quickly turning into the type of combination wing/guard that can score anywhere on the court, but also handle the ball like a guard.

De’Yanna Douglas, 6-1, Sr., Midwest City

Earlier this season, Douglas became the Lady Bombers' all-time leading scorer and rebounder. Considering MWC's long legacy, that stat by itself speaks for the type of force she has been throughout her career and this season. The walking double-double has Midwest City in contention for a 5A title run.

Makenna Yokley, 6-1, Sr., Owasso

Yokley brings a physical brand of basketball to the Lady Rams. She plays a more traditional post and makes a living in the paint, which many players are unwilling to do anymore. As a junior, Yokley averaged 15 points and 8 rebounds a game. She has continued to pick up her game in her final season before heading off to Missouri Southern.

Lilly Thomas, 6-1, Jr., El Reno

El Reno started the year on fire. At 24-0, they were the only team in Class 5A that had yet to suffer a loss. A big reason for that has been the play of post player Thomas. Leading the team in scoring and rebounding, the junior finds ways to leave her imprint on the game. After the Lady Indians took home the championship at the Shawnee Invitational, Thomas was presented with the MVP after averaging 14 points, six rebounds and just over two blocks a game.

Karlee Tahkofper, 6-0, Jr., Carnegie

While Carnegie has struggled at times this year, Tahkofper has kept her play steady. Posting 14 points and 7.5 rebounds, she has been a consistent force for CHS.

Libby Jaques, 6-0, Jr., Moore

While Jaques has made her name on the softball diamond, the junior has shown her talents carry over to the hardwood as well. Recently, she earned a spot on the all-tournament team at the John Nobles Invitational. Jaques has committed to Oklahoma State to play softball.

Kayten Donley, 6-1, Jr., Bethany

While the Lady Bronchos backcourt has gotten much of the spotlight, Donley has been an important key to the team’s success this year. Shooting 50% from the field, the forward is third on the team in scoring at 12.3 points a game. Yet, she leads the team with an impressive 61% from 3-point range.

Makiya Moore, 5-9, So., Classen SAS

Despite only being a sophomore, Moore has watched her game rise each week. She is averaging 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds for the Lady Comets.

ShaLyn Edmondson, 5-8, Sr., Bristow

Edmondson is second on the team in scoring at just over 14 points a contest while shooting 43% from the field. Yet, the small forward leads the squad with 7.2 boards and one blocked shot to go along with her 2.6 steals a night.

Fallon Bowman, 6-2, Sr., Pawhuska

Coming off her impressive showing in the 2023 2A state tournament, Bowman has been a mainstay for the Lady Huskies. Her 15 points and seven rebounds have helped PHS rank inside the top 20 in Class 2A. She is also shooting 50% percent from the floor

Kate Naifeh, 5-10, Fr., Casady

In her first varsity season, Naifeh is close to averaging a double-double for the Lady Cyclones. Her 9.9 points and 8.5 rebounds have been a bright spot for CHS.

Taryn Cottrell, 6-0, Sr., Moore

Cottrell may be the definition of a stretch four. She has the shooting skills to stand out on the perimeter and knock down shots, but will also dive into the paint for putbacks.

Ashlee Kelley, Sr., Coyle

The senior forward has doubled her rebounding average in the past year. After posting 5.9 boards as a junior, she is now hauling in more than 10 boards a game to go along with her 8 points a game.

Sophie Blair, 6-1, So., Claremore Christian

Blair leads the Warriors in rebounding at almost 8 a night. The sophomore also tops the team in field goal percentage at 46% to go along with her 7.7 points.

Sierra Martin, 5-11, Sr., Midwest City

Martin has teamed up with teammate De’Yanna Douglass to form a formidable front line for the Lady Bombers. However, while Douglass lives in the paint, Martin is just as comfortable on the perimeter. With her quick feet and ball-handling skills, the senior has shown an all-around game throughout her final year at MWC.

Olivia Suttles, 5-4, Sr., Lawton MacArthur

At 5-foot-4, Suttles' duties range from point guard to point forward for the Lady Highlanders. Her willingness to do whatever is needed for the team is a major reason MHS is one of the top teams in Class 5A.

Shelby Thornton, 6-2, Jr., Del City

Thornton entered the season as the team’s second-leading returning scorer after she averaged nearly a double-double on 9 points and 8 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

Kate Wernli, 5-10, So., Bixby

As a point forward for the Lady Spartans, Wernli is part of a growing trend of post-players who can impact the game in a variety of different ways. She showed this during a recent 46-44 win over Broken Arrow when she tallied 23 points.

Jayla Albert, 5-10, Fr., Lincoln Christian

Despite being a freshman on a title-contending team, Albert has made her presence felt this year. Averaging seven points and four rebounds, she has helped the Lady Bulldogs to one of the best records in Class 4A.

Jerney Bennett, 6-0, Sr., Edmond Santa Fe

In the Wolves' biggest win of the season, Bennett showed how efficient she can be on the court. Facing an undefeated Putnam City West and its harassing defense, the senior shot 10-of-15 from the field for a game-high 28 points to lead ESF to a 58-53 victory.

Cherish Haywood, 5-11, Jr., Mustang

Haywood is a fierce defender and rebounder in the low post. But the junior also can step out on the perimeter and take on high-scoring guards as well. She is averaging 11 points, five rebounds and three steals on the season.

Allyssa Parker, 6-0, Jr., Pocola

Despite having already committed to the University of Oklahoma for softball, Parker continues to thrive on the hardwood as well. She was recently named Prep Nation’s 2024 Miss Oklahoma, as the State’s Best Overall Player in HS Sports.

Mary Carden, 6-6, Sr., Idabel

With her size, Carden already presents an imposing presence. But she is also one of the top scorers and go-to players for a Lady Warrior squad that is one of the favorites to win Class 3A. Carden, who is headed to play at Oral Roberts University, did play for a state title as a sophomore, but would love nothing more than to go back to Oklahoma City's State Fair Arena and finish her Idabel career with a gold ball.
