Lauren Han was focused.

The Clackamas sophomore is still unbeaten on the season.

Now, she’s a champion — and she made some history in the process.

Han wrapped up her unblemished sophomore high school tennis season by scoring a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Westview junior Neena Feldman in the girls singles title match of the Class 6A state championships, held Thursday through Saturday at the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center in Beaverton.

“It means a lot to me, personally, and to do it for my school,” Han said during the tournament awards ceremony. “I think I’m the first girl to win state for Clackamas. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.”

Han, the No. 1 seed, received a first-round bye and then rolled to three consecutive straight-set victories, losing a total of six games in the process, to earn a spot in Saturday’s championship match.

Feldman, the No. 2 seed, followed a similar path to the final. She received a first-round bye and then also had three consecutive straight-set wins, also losing just six games in the process.

In the championship battle of titans, Han took control early, jumping out to a 4-1 lead on her way to posting a 6-3 first-set victory.

“I feel like I was playing my game well, dictating well,” Han said. “I just executed everything I wanted to do.”

Feldman came back strong in the second set, taking leads of 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3.

“She did come back strong in the second set, but I think I managed it well, and obviously came out on top,” Han said. “I was really focused. I was trying to focus on one ball at a time.”

Focused and ferocious.

Han won the next three games to win the set 6-4, claiming the state singles title — first in Clackamas history.

“It felt kind of surreal,” Han said of the final point of the match. “I didn’t really feel like I won, yet. The emotions don’t kick in until you get off the court.”

Sprague junior Libby Blair, the No. 3 seed, got a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jesuit sophomore Carissa Gerung, the No. 4 seed, in the girls singles third-place match.

While Han denied Westview the singles state championship, the Wildcats claimed the rest of the state-tournament gold.

Westview girls doubles team

In the girls doubles bracket, the Westview team of junior Amberly Au and senior Karolina Dobiecka, the No. 1 seed, powered its way to the championship.

Au and Dobiecka, after receiving a first-round bye, won three consecutive straight-set matches to get to the final. In the title tilt, against Metro League rivals, junior Mishi Batinkova and senior Libby Day, the No. 2 seeded team, from Jesuit, the Westview duo came away with a 6-2, 6-1 victory — and the championship.

In the girls doubles third-place match, Westview senior Riho Iijima and freshman Tessa Rozendal, the No. 8 seed, earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over the fourth-seeded team of juniors Kate DeVall and Meg DeVall of West Linn.

The Westview girls also claimed the Class 6A team championship, the program's first, with a score of 25 points. Jesuit was second with 16 points. Clackamas was third with 10 points, and Sprague placed fourth with nine.
