The Philomath girls track and field team ended a 12-year title drought Saturday at the OSAA state championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, scoring points in 11 of 17 events and amassing 87 points to defeat Marist Catholic for the Class 4A championship.

Senior Sage Kramer, who led the Warriors to a state basketball title in March, added a title in the shot put Saturday to the javelin she won Friday, and freshman Janice Hellesto led a 1-2 finish in the 400 meters and anchored the victorious 4x400 relay.

The Spartans won the 4x100 and senior Jennifer Tsai avenged an earlier loss in the 1,500 to Baker’s Emma Baeth by passing the Bulldogs senior in the homestretch to win the 800.

Cascade senior Emma Gates, headed to the University of Arizona in the fall, won the high jump Friday and the 100 Saturday to lead the Cougars to the third-place trophy.

North Valley senior Karlee Touey denied Gates a third title by edging her by four-hundredths of a second in the 200 final. Touey also won the 300 hurdles to help the Vikings to a fourth-place finish.

Molalla senior Elizabeth Grandle won athlete of the meet honors, earning titles in the long jump Friday and the 100 hurdles Saturday and placing in four events.

Marshfield’s Daphne Scriven (discus) and Cascade’s Anna Wilson (pole vault) were Saturday’s other winners.
