Kellen was a multi-sport athlete in all four years of high school as he was a four-time football letterman, two-time basketball and two-time track. His success mainly came from football, earning All-State honors his senior year after leading his defense to a state championship game appearance. Kellen was a two-time 1st team All-Conference linebacker. In basketball, Kellen was a key contributor for the state champion Tualatin team. In track, he excelled at javelin, setting the Tualatin freshman record by 15 feet. He placed second in district and 12th in state his junior year.
