Ryan was a three-year starter for Summit High School on the varsity football team and played both sides of the ball. He rarely came out of the game and even played special teams. He was a team leader on offense and routinely carried the ball 25-35 times per game. He stayed on the field on defense, and he helped lead the Storm to their first playoff appearance in 6A. Ryan also played for the varsity baseball team as early as his eighth-grade summer, going 2 for 3 with two triples and four RBIs in his first game as an eighth-grader. He wanted to play football more than anything, and if not for the injuries he sustained in his junior year, and then tearing his labrum and separating his shoulder in his senior year, he would have likely played at the next level. At only 5-10 and 165 pounds, Ryan was a beast in the weight room with a bench press of 245. He also clocked a 4.6-second 40-yard dash with a 35-inch vertical. Ryan’s GPA was near the top of the charts at 4.0 on a team that was first in the state in all classifications for GPA’s in football.
