After three decades with the McNary football program, Jeff Auvinen has stepped down as head coach.

Auvinen, who guided the Celtics to a 7-4 record last fall and a first-round playoff victory over North Medford, announced his resignation in a July 3 Facebook post. The veteran coach wrote:

“I have formally submitted my letter of resignation as head football coach. It has been an amazing 30 years in the program, and I wouldn't change a minute of it.

“I want to thank my family, the community, the administration, and most importantly, all of the amazing athletes that have been through the program in those 30 years. You will be in great hands with the current staff, as they are amazing coaches and people.”
