A look at some of the best games, top stars and memorable performances from Week 5 in Oregon

The Oregon high school football season continued this weekend with Week 5 action around the state. 

Here’s a look at some of the best games, top stars and memorable performances.

CLASS 6A

No. 1 Sheldon 56, Roseburg 0

Brock Thomas ran for the Irish’s first two touchdowns and passed for their next four in the win at Roseburg (0-4, 0-2 Central/Southwest Valley Conference). 

Thomas connected with Luke Leighton and Teitum Tuioti as the Irish (5-0, 3-0) forged a 28-0 first-quarter lead. Grafton Robinson and Isaac Peters caught scoring passes in the second quarter, giving the Irish a 42-0 halftime lead.

EJ Peterson’s interception on the first possession after halftime set up Mana Tuioti’s five-yard touchdown run, and Carter Johnson returned an interception for the Irish’s final score.

A defense led by Leighton, Teitum Tuioti and Josh Merriman held Roseburg to fewer than 100 yards of total offense. 

No. 2 West Linn 49, Lake Oswego 0

Seven players scored touchdowns for the Lions (4-1) in their home-field win over the Lakers (3-2) in the Three Rivers League opener for both teams.

Lions senior Sam Leavitt completed 14 of 20 passes for 274 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He picked up 87 yards on the ground. 

No. 3 Central Catholic 50, Reynolds 0

Ryan Anthony led the Rams’ defense in the win over the host Raiders (3-2, 1-2 Mt. Hood Conference) of Troutdale at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.

Anthony was in on seven tackles (including four solo). The Rams (4-1, 3-0) of Southeast Portland booked four sacks, eight tackles for loss and a forced fumble while holding the Raiders to 56 yards of total offense.

Cru Newman was 7 of 10 for 124 yards and three touchdowns. He added 21 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Zhaiel Smith caught three touchdown passes and had a fourth touchdown on a punt return. Michael Williams also had a punt return for a touchdown, and Cade Gehlen had a touchdown catch. 

The Rams, who did all of their scoring in the first half, also got a touchdown pass from sophomore Luke Baker. 

No. 4 Tualatin 39, Lakeridge 21

Luke Ash ran for two touchdowns and Jack Wagner passed for two, powering the Timberwolves to the win over the visiting Pacers of Lake Oswego.

Ash carried 29 times for 156 yards and the two scores. Wagner (16 of 25) connected with Richie Anderson and Jayden Fortier for touchdowns. 

Wagner and Kenen Elder had five solo tackles apiece for the Timberwolves (5-0, 0-1 Three Rivers League). 

The first of Ryan Oliver’s three touchdown passes, a 21-yard connection with Baylor Corbin, pulled the Pacers (2-3, 0-1) into a 7-7 tie in the first quarter, but that was the last time the score was tied. 

Ansu Sanoe and Jace Swygard also had scoring catches for the Pacers.

Wagner has passed for at least two touchdowns in all five games this season and has a season total of 17.

No. 5 Jesuit 64, Aloha 0

The Crusaders (4-1, 1-0) of Southwest Portland scored on their first two snaps and pulled away for the Metro League win over the visiting Warriors (0-5, 0-1).

Payton Roth ran 62 yards for the Crusaders’ first score, and Jace Burton went 50 yards with a pass from Jacob Hutchinson for their second touchdown.

Roth (seven carries, 174 yards) scored three touchdowns — including a 59-yard burst — as part of the Crusaders’ 36-point second quarter. Hutchinson completed all seven of his passes for 102 yards and two scores. 

No. 6 Tigard 36, Oregon City 23 | Story

The host Pioneers closed to within 26-23 in the fourth quarter before the Tigers (5-0) pulled away at Pioneer Memorial Stadium in the Three Rivers League opener for both teams.

The Tigers’ Konnor Grant ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns, the last coming 4½ minutes into the fourth quarter and answering Ben Schneider’s fourth-down touchdown pass to Logan Fry, which made it a three-point game.

Schneider passed for two scores for the Pioneers (3-2). Ethan Hopwood scored on a 41-yard fumble return for Oregon City. 

Jake Feist, starting for injured Brady Jordan at quarterback for the Tigers, passed for more than 150 yards and a touchdown to Austin Goetz. Feist scored on a three-yard run for the Tigers’ first touchdown. 

No. 7 Mountainside 31, No. 9 Westview 30 (2OT) | Story

The Mavericks stopped a two-point conversion try in the second overtime and then got a touchdown followed by the extra point from Holden Phillips to pull out the Metro League win over the host Wildcats of Northwest Portland.

After a scoreless first overtime, Jordan Fisher ran 25 yards for a touchdown — his fourth of the game — on the Wildcats’ second snap of the second overtime period. The Mavericks (5-0, 1-0) of Beaverton stopped the two-point conversion attempt and took possession trailing the Wildcats (1-4, 0-1) by six points.

The Mavericks converted a fourth-and-3 play with a three-yard run by Elym Young, and Alex Ingalls hit Brayden Boe for a 15-yard touchdown on the next snap. Phillips — who kicked a 42-yard field goal and had a touchdown catch — kicked the point after for the win. 

Fisher ran for scores of 96, six and nine yards in regulation. His final score came with 24 seconds left in the fourth quarter, ending an 80-yard drive that started with 5:10 remaining. The potential go-ahead point-after kick was blocked. 

Fisher finished with 263 yards on 26 carries — his third game this season with at least 225 yards on the ground. 

Ingalls passed for three scores, two to Boe. On defense, Boe and Kellen Hicks were in on eight tackles apiece.

No. 8 South Medford 33, Sprague 18

Dylan Espinosa ran for two touchdowns to help the Panthers pull away from the visiting Olympians of Salem at Spiegelberg Stadium in Medford.

Drew Rodriguez caught a touchdown pass, and Kenya Johnson and Barik Hill each ran for a score for the Olympians (2-3, 1-2 Central/Southwest Valley Conference), who struck first and led 7-0.

Andrew Walker caught a 51-yard touchdown pass to pull the Panthers (5-0, 3-0) within 7-6. After another Olympians touchdown, Deacon Edgar scored on a 15-yard run to make it 14-12, and his one-yard score put the Panthers on top for good.

Edgar completed 10 of 13 passes for the Panthers, who are 5-0 for the first time since 2011. 

Nelson 42, No. 10 Clackamas 35 (OT)

Max Kirsch caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Avirey Durdahl on the first play of overtime, and the host Hawks (3-1, 2-1 Mt. Hood Conference) denied the visiting Cavaliers (2-3, 1-2) on their possession and collected the win in Happy Valley. 

Durdahl passed for four scores, connecting also with Reid Gray (twice) and Jaidon Siler. Kirsch returned a punt for a touchdown. 

Clackamas coach James Holan said in a text that Cooper Beltz and AJ Perez stood out in the Cavaliers’ defeat. 

Sherwood 35, Century 7

Owen Cyr made a tiptoe grab of a catch for a touchdown pass from Jonny Ellis for the host Jaguars (2-3, 0-1), but the Bowmen pulled away for the Pacific Conference win in Hillsboro.

Sherwood’s Elijah Douglass intercepted two passes, returning one for a touchdown.

Aiden Owens ran for two scores, Nick Gribble scored a touchdown each rushing and receiving, and Kasen Covert threw for a touchdown and had more than 150 yards of total offense for the Bowmen. 

Liberty 55, Glencoe 39

The host Falcons (3-2) trailed 20-7 in the second quarter but pulled away for the win over the Crimson Tide (1-4) in the Pacific Conference opener for both Hillsboro schools. 

Tanner Steinbach (124 yards), Tytan Rekow and Vincent Cabezudo rushed for two touchdowns apiece for the Falcons, who piled up 400 yards on the ground. Houston Lee-Perry rushed 12 times for 119 yards. 

Crimson Tide quarterback Trevor O’Leary passed for one score and ran for two. Maliq Smith ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns for the Crimson Tide.

The Falcons’ Taku Diamond caught a touchdown pass from Rekow and was in on nine tackles, including two for loss and one sack. Reid Linkmeyer had eight solo and eight assisted tackles, and Ryan Berger had three solo tackles, two tackles for loss and one sack. Logan Hinojosa returned a fumble 51 yards for a Falcons touchdown.

McMinnville 49, Newberg 21

A line led by Hunter Hopkins, Austin Carl and Gavin McIrvin led the Grizzlies’ offense in the home-field win over the Tigers (3-2) in the Pacific Conference opener for both teams.

The offensive line’s play allowed Austin Rapp to run for 230 yards and four touchdowns for the Grizzlies (3-2). Kane Sullivan passed for three touchdowns and 139 yards.

The Grizzlies held the Tigers to 185 yards of total offense. Hudson Davis had three touchdowns for Newberg. 

Barlow 39, David Douglas 6

Caleb Clardy was a force for the host Scots (0-5, 0-3 Mt. Hood Conference) on both sides of the ball, but the Bruins (3-2, 3-0) of Gresham started to pull away late in the first half of the win in Southeast Portland. 

Clardy had 10 tackles, 66 yards on 11 rushes, 44 yards receiving and the Scots’ touchdown. 

Sandy 34, Gresham 6

Payton Giusto returned two interceptions for touchdowns, Garrett Willenberg returned a kickoff 75 yards for a score, and the Pioneers defeated the Gophers (1-3, 0-3 Mt. Hood Conference) in Gresham.

Giusto’s touchdowns covered 65 and 85 yards. Willenberg and Cole Rotzien also ran for scores as the Pioneers (2-3, 2-1) earned their second consecutive win. 

Sunset 34, Beaverton 13

Cole Massar scored three consecutive touchdowns — two on interception returns — to lead the Apollos (3-2, 1-0) past the visiting Beavers (0-5, 0-1) in a Metro League game in Northwest Portland.

With the Apollos leading 14-7, Massar returned his first interception to give the Apollos a 21-7 lead. It was 28-7 after Massar caught a touchdown pass from Drew Nees, and Massar’s second interception return made it 34-7 with five minutes left.

Nees (14 of 20) passed for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Owen Scholes had a touchdown run, and Jeff McMillan caught Nees’ other touchdown pass.

Dez Valencia and Hunter Borter ran for touchdowns for the Beavers.

Massar, who returned a kickoff for a touchdown in the Apollos’ 36-35 win over Liberty in Week 3, has three nonoffensive touchdowns this season. 

North Medford 20, Grants Pass 14

The Black Tornado made a defensive stand inside their 20-yard line to preserve the victory over the host Cavemen (3-2, 1-2 Central/Southwest Valley Conference). 

The Cavemen took possession at midfield with 7:20 left and converted a fourth-and-17 play, getting a first down at the Black Tornado 18. After three plays and two penalties on the offense, the Cavemen faced a fourth-and-4 at the 12 and were unable to convert, giving possession to the Black Tornado (3-2, 3-0) with 18 seconds left.

Ty Pugliano carried 21 times for 138 yards and two scores, and he made an interception on defense for the Black Tornado. Alexander Angulo had nine carries for 80 yards, and Caiden Lacey was 18 of 24 for 174 yards and ran for a score. 

Jace Blanchard and Jackson Tunick connected on two touchdown passes for Grants Pass. Tunick caught seven passes for 209 yards, the third-most in an Oregon Class 6A game this season (West Linn’s Mark Hamper, 272 yards; Lakeridge’s Baylor Corbin, 235 yards). 

Malachi Kinyon and Raiden Takahashi made interceptions for the Cavemen’s defense.

South Salem 35, West Salem 7

Zach Wusstig scored three touchdowns on offense and Hatimu Letisi recovered a fumble in the end zone for a defensive score in the Saxons’ road victory over the Titans (0-5, 0-3 Central/Southwest Valley Conference).

Jameson Lowery returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown for the Titans, who trailed 14-7 at halftime. Carson Evenson spearheaded the Titans’ running game, and Seth Foster made a fourth-down sack as part of a defense that forced four consecutive three-and-out possessions. 

Wusstig caught two touchdown passes from Daschel Smith (31 of 49, 353 yards) and ran 69 yards for another score. Tini Tinitali III also had a touchdown catch for the Saxons (4-1, 2-1), who have scored at least 34 points in all five of their games.

North Salem 21, McNary 7

Erick Gonzalez scored on a 54-yard catch 25 seconds before halftime, putting the Vikings ahead 21-7 en route to the victory over the host Celtics (0-5, 0-3 Central/Southwest Valley Conference) in Keizer.

Josiah Davis carried 21 times for 164 yards and two scores for the Vikings (4-1, 2-1), and TC Manumaleuna II was 3 of 6 for 72 yards with the touchdown to Gonzalez and one interception.

Jake Allen led the Celtics’ running game, Hunter Roberto was a constant presence around the ball carrier on defense, and Jabol Balos made an interception for the Celtics.

The Vikings’ defense got interceptions by Gonzalez and Nevin Zeller and a fumble recovery by Brady Valet. 

Grant 14, Lincoln 7

Kellen Segel scored on a three-yard run with 1:34 left to lift the Generals of Northeast Portland over the Cardinals (1-4, 1-2 Portland Interscholastic League) of Southwest Portland at the Marshall campus in Southeast Portland. 

The Generals overcame four turnovers and 13 penalties in part with a defense that limited the Cardinals to 148 yards of total offense. Marshune Waters made an interception to thwart one Cardinals possession. 

Thomas Pempel caught a touchdown pass from Carson Wacker to give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. Grant pulled within 7-6 on a two-yard run by Jayden Moses. 

Franklin 59, McDaniel 6

Josiah Heintzman rushed for five touchdowns and powered the host Lightning (4-0, 3-0) to the Portland Interscholastic League win over the Mountain Lions (0-5, 0-3) at Franklin High School in Southeast Portland. 

Quarterback Jake Brewer and Mekai Anderson connected on an 80-yard catch-and-run touchdown for the Mountain Lions to make the score 16-6 early in the second quarter.

An interception by Ian Lite and a fumble recovery by Isaiah Marcell were among the defensive highlights for the Lightning, who surpassed their win total from the fall 2021 season. 

Will Reid passed to Max Wallace and Saul Brucker for touchdowns, and Cooper Haug also had a rushing touchdown for the Lightning.

Roosevelt 21, Wells 12

Dexter Foster caught a touchdown pass from Ben Weiner and stood out on defense for the Roughriders in the victory over the host Guardians (2-3, 1-2 Portland Interscholastic League) in Southwest Portland. 

Dontrell Betts scored on a short run in the second quarter and Robert Anthony III scored on a 75-yard run after halftime for the Roughriders (2-3, 2-1) of North Portland. 

Anthony III had an interception, and Nywaun Campbell and Tau Takau also were factors on defense. 

Wells quarterback Parker Feld-Gore scored on a 58-yard run to pull the Guardians within 14-6 in the third quarter. He passed to Gus Johnson for a 33-yard touchdown for a 21-12 score in the fourth, but after the Roughriders stopped the two-point conversion try, the Guardians’ recovery of their pooch kickoff didn’t pose a threat.

Feld-Gore made an interception — his fifth of the season — and Emmitt Davis also made an interception for the Guardians.

Jefferson 38, Cleveland 0

Kamari Ransom returned an interception for a touchdown as part of a dominant defensive performance by the Democrats in the Portland Interscholastic League win over the host Warriors (1-4, 0-3) in Southeast Portland. 

Jeray Mott, J’sean McIver and Sanborne Melson also had interceptions for the Democrats (2-3, 2-1) of North Portland. Royal Bowden blocked a punt, Pedo Gonzales had three tackles for loss, and D’Marieon Gates and Melson were among the team’s leaders in tackles. 

Sophomore Brave Johnson passed for touchdowns to Gates and London Walker.

Mott had a 75-yard touchdown run on his way to eclipsing 100 yards, and McIver scored twice on the ground and also surpassed 100 yards. 

CLASS 5A

No. 1 Summit 42, Ridgeview 8

Hogan Carmichael passed for four touchdowns and more than 300 yards, and the Storm (4-1) of Northwest Bend built a 35-0 halftime lead in the win over the host Ravens (1-4) in Redmond. The game was the Intermountain Conference opener for both teams.

Sam Stephens ran for more than 100 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Storm and made an interception on defense.

Peyton Zampko returned an interception for a touchdown for the Ravens. 

No. 2 Wilsonville 51, Hood River Valley 6

Jacob Ogden, who missed most of the past two games, rushed for two touchdowns and Cooper Hiday caught two touchdown passes, helping the Wildcats (3-2, 1-0 Northwest Oregon Conference) end a two-game losing streak and defeat the visiting Eagles (2-3, 1-2)

Kallen Gutridge passed for four scores, with Nick Colyer and Mark Wiepert catching touchdown passes. Maverick Summers ran for a score for the Wildcats, who got an interception from Luke Larson. 

The Eagles, who got a touchdown pass from Davis Parr to Toby Stintzi, were within 17-6 before the Wildcats pulled away. 

No. 3 Thurston 47, Springfield 20

Noah Blair completed 7 of 12 passes for three touchdowns and Vaun Halstead paced the defense with 10 solo tackles, helping the Colts defeat the visiting Millers in a matchup of Springfield schools.

Dwayne Fotta gave the Millers (3-2, 2-1 Midwestern League) a 6-0 lead on a 30-yard run. He later scored on a 90-yard kickoff return and a 35-yard reception.

The Colts (3-2, 3-0) led 14-6 at halftime, having repelled two Springfield drives that reached the Thurston 20-yard line.

The Colts’ Will Dau rushed 14 times for 125 yards and a touchdown. Halstead and Darien Witham also ran for touchdowns. Walker Bonar, Luke Newell and Ethan Burkhead caught touchdown passes from Blair.

Kaleb Miller and Romynn Schaefer each had four solo tackles for the Colts, and Schaefer had an interception. 

Caeleb Kasperek passed for more than 200 yards and a touchdown for the Millers. Fotta hit the 100-yard mark in the receiving game. 

No. 4 Bend 43, Redmond 0

Jack Sorenson rushed for three touchdowns, Jackson Bishop and Austin Baker had interceptions, and the Lava Bears downed the host Panthers (2-3, 0-1 Intermountain Conference). 

The Lava Bears (5-0, 1-0) posted their third consecutive shutout and their fourth this season. They have allowed seven points this season, 32 points fewer than any other Class 5A school. 

Sorenson carried 12 times and gained 179 yards. Malakai Nutter and Seth Klaus also ran for touchdowns, and Logan Malinowski passed to Blake Groshong for a touchdown.

No. 5 Silverton 44, Corvallis 7

The Foxes (4-1, 4-0 Mid-Willamette Conference) led 34-0 midway through the second quarter in defeating the Spartans (0-5, 0-5) in Corvallis.

Toby Worsch scored the Spartans’ touchdown.

Sawyer Teeney had three touchdown passes — two to Cohen Mulick and one to Carson Waples — and Jackson Pfeifer and Ray Sims each ran for a score before the Spartans got on the scoreboard.

Pfeifer led the Foxes in rushing with 86 yards on seven carries. Mulick caught three passes for 83 yards and the two scores. 

No. 6 Southridge 26, No. 8 Canby 15

Jackson Powell ran for two scores, Jack Klee passed to Errol Moreland for a touchdown, and Maya Simon made all three of her point-after kicks in the Skyhawks’ win over the visiting Cougars (3-2, 0-1 Northwest Oregon Conference) in Beaverton.

Adam Slail, Noah Lundy, Joaquin Tijerina and Owen Otani were key parts of the defense for the Skyhawks (5-0, 3-0). Simon is 17 for 17 on point-after kicks this season. 

Central 35, No. 9 West Albany 28

Asa Moa made an interception that led to a third-quarter touchdown, and Chase W Nelson’s final score broke a 28-28 tie in the Panthers’ win over the visiting Bulldogs (2-2, 2-2 Mid-Willamette Conference) in Independence.

After Moa’s interception, the Panthers (3-2, 3-2) scored for a 28-20 lead. In the fourth, Nelson went 75 yards for a touchdown with eight minutes left. The Panthers’ defense held after allowing one first down, and the offense mounted a seven-minute drive, kneeling out the clock at the Bulldogs’ 2-yard line. 

Nelson passed for more than 200 yards, ran for more than 100 and factored in three touchdowns. Kohler Hernandez rushed for two scores and more than 150 yards.

Demarcus Houston, Wyatt Lyon and Austin Simmons caught touchdown passes from the Bulldogs’ Lukas Hews, and Tyler Hart-McNally ran for a score.

No. 10 South Albany 21, Lebanon 0

The host RedHawks (4-1, 4-1 Mid-Willamette Conference) got rushing touchdowns from Logan Johnson, Diah Kollaer and Kaden Younger in defeating Lebanon (2-3, 2-3). 

South Albany posted its first shutout in 74 games dating to Sept. 13, 2013. The opponent in that game was Lebanon, and the score of that game was 21-0.

Wyatt Wessel had 10 tackles, including two sacks, for Lebanon. 

Kollaer was in on 5½ tackles, and Jayden Pang had four tackles for the RedHawks.

McKay 51, Crescent Valley 23

Jamahl Wilson took advantage of an offensive line described as “phenomenal” by coach Brandis Piper to rush for more than 300 yards and six touchdowns as the Royal Scots of Salem defeated the host Raiders (1-4, 1-3 Mid-Willamette Conference) in Corvallis. 

Wilson’s six touchdowns are the second-most in an Oregon Class 5A or 6A game this season, behind the seven-touchdown game by Eagle Point’s David Brown in Week 1.

McKay’s Kyrin Fuimaono passed for a touchdown to Justice Anthony. Defensively, the Royal Scots (1-4, 1-3) got an interception from Lukes Dominguez and a safety by Raider Cendejas. 

Mountain View 48, Caldera 6

Max Paskewich rushed for two touchdowns, and the host Cougars (3-2) of Northeast Bend defeated the visiting Wolfpack (1-4) of Southeast Bend in the Intermountain Conference opener for both schools.

The Cougars blocked a punt early for a safety and blocked another punt for a touchdown. Connor Crum passed for a touchdown to Sam Creech. 

Alex Byler passed to Trace Benner for the Wolfpack’s touchdown. 

Putnam 34, Hillsboro 28

The Kingsmen stopped a Spartans drive inside the 10-yard line with 2:20 left and then converted a fourth-down attempt on offense to seal the Northwest Oregon Conference victory at Hare Field in Hillsboro.

After Jaxon Doyle’s fourth rushing touchdown put the Kingsmen (5-0, 1-0) of Milwaukie ahead 34-28, the Spartans (3-2, 1-1) drove from their 25 to the 5. Their fourth-down pass lost three yards, giving the Kingsmen possession at the 8.

On fourth-and-one from the 17, Doyle gained three yards to move the chains and allow the Kingsmen to run out the clock, continuing their best start in more than 35 years. 

The Kingsmen’s James Bauman had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to put Putnam ahead 14-7 in the first quarter.

Preston Echeverria’s second touchdown, a two-yard run with 3:32 left in the third quarter, pulled the Spartans into a 28-28 tie. He also had the biggest play on the Spartans’ final drive — a 38-yard run from the Spartans’ 39 to the Kingmen’s 23.

Forest Grove 44, Centennial 14

Kaden Hale passed for five touchdowns and ran for a score in the Vikings’ win over the host Eagles (0-5, 0-3 Northwest Oregon Conference) in Gresham.

Hale had about 300 yards passing, and James Oberhelman (two touchdowns) was close to 200 yards rushing. 

Kyle Fabela and Sam Blanton each had a long scoring reception for the Vikings (1-4, 1-1), who got significant defensive contributions from Oberhelman, Carter Bennett and Colton Noah. 

Eagle Point 35, Willamette 20

Bryton Livingston passed for two touchdowns and David Brown scored three touchdowns, powering the Eagles (4-1, 3-0 Midwestern League) to the home-field win over the Wolverines (2-3, 1-2) of Eugene.

The Wolverines committed five turnovers, two of them inside the 3-yard line. Ryan Prescott passed for 250 yards and two scores — to Myles Brooks and Brandon Thorton. Waylen Alexander ran for a Wolverines touchdown.

Wyatt Graves returned an interception for a touchdown, giving the Eagles a 7-6 lead in the first quarter. 

Churchill 34, South Eugene 7

Noa Allison ran for a touchdown and caught a pass for another to help the Lancers (2-3, 2-1 Midwestern League) of Eugene defeat the host Axe (1-4, 0-3). 

Lancers quarterback Tyler Mikel passed to Allison for a score and ran for one himself, and Titan Nagel had two touchdown runs. 

Andy Womack, Kadin Gaber and Gavin Hill made interceptions for the Lancers’ defense. 

Crater 35, North Eugene 0

Sophomore quarterback Ben Higginson rushed for 178 yards and a score and passed to Kayden Gardner for two touchdowns for the Comets, who shut out the visiting Highlanders (1-4, 0-3 Midwestern League) in Central Point. 

Aidan Chenoweth had 75 yards and a touchdown on the ground for the Comets (2-3, 1-2), who got a touchdown on a fumble return by Andrew Schatz. 

CLASS 4A

No. 2 Estacada 61, Molalla 13

Waylon Riedel, James Durand and Cory James returned interceptions for touchdowns, and the Rangers won at Molalla (0-5, 0-1 Tri-Valley Conference).

Molalla’s Mason King threw for touchdowns to Matt Mueller and Tyson Ferrell.

The Rangers (4-1, 1-0) made six interceptions. James passed for two scores and ran for another.

No. 3 Pendleton 49, Madras 12

Payton Lambert rushed for two touchdowns, caught a pass for another score and intercepted a pass to power the host Buckaroos (4-1, 1-0 Greater Oregon League) to the victory over the White Buffaloes (3-2, 0-1).

Jack Davis passed for 259 yards and two touchdowns, connecting also with Benito Jennings. Jace Otteson, Brock Mackey and Gavin Clark also rushed for Pendleton touchdowns.

Luke Bensching had two tackles for loss for the Buckaroos. Pendleton has allowed 32 points in its four games against Oregon opponents, three of which are Class 5A schools. 

No. 4 Marist Catholic 42, Sweet Home 12

Jackson Gibeau completed 10 of 13 passes for 196 yards and three scores, and the host Spartans never trailed in the Oregon West Conference win over the Huskies (2-3, 1-2) in Eugene.

AJ Sargent caught three touchdown passes, including a 54-yarder, for the Spartans (4-1, 2-0). Drew Salnas picked up 94 yards on the ground, including a run of 52 yards.

The Spartans’ Drew Prickel returned a kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown, and Aiden Hazen made 13 tackles. 

No. 5 Henley 42, Hidden Valley 14

Owen Cheyne and Chris Janney caught two touchdown passes apiece from Shaw Stork as the Hornets of Klamath Falls downed the host Mustangs (2-3, 1-2 Big Sky Conference) in Grants Pass. 

The Hornets (5-0, 2-0) got two rushing touchdowns from Logan Whitlock as they scored at least 35 points for the fourth game in a row. 

No. 6 Scappoose 39, Milwaukie 0

D’Angelo Macedo Becker rushed for three touchdowns and caught a scoring pass as Scappoose (4-1, 1-0 Cowapa League) handled the visiting Mustangs (3-2, 0-1).

Trey Dieringer ran for a score and Trey Fuller caught a touchdown pass. 

Scappoose's defensive standouts included Warren Haatia (two sacks), Allen Cloquet and Eli Harrah (fumble recovery each), George Mandaras (one sack) and Dieringer (forced fumble). 

No. 7 La Grande 55, No. 7 Baker 21

The Bulldogs (3-2, 0-1 Greater Oregon League) returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and were within six points at halftime before the host Tigers (3-2, 1-0) pulled away.

A touchdown 20 seconds before halftime pulled the Bulldogs within 27-21, but turnovers in the red zone after intermission thwarted their comeback bid.

Tigers coach Rich McIlmoil lauded his offensive line, which created pathways for La Grande’s eight rushing touchdowns. 

No. 9 Cascade 56, Cottage Grove 13

Drew Petersen caught two touchdown passes — the Lions’ first touchdowns of the season — but Cottage Grove (0-5, 0-3 Oregon West Conference) had difficulty stopping the run against the visiting Cougars (3-2, 2-0) of Turner. 

Nolan Abrams ran for three touchdowns to lead the Cougars. Jacob Bell and Karsten Sande rushed for two apiece, and Gage Nicholson ran for a score. 

No. 10 Marshfield 27, Junction City 7

The Tigers (3-2) drew first blood, but the host Pirates scored 27 unanswered points to close the victory in Coos Bay. 

Levi Walker’s short touchdown run gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead on the first snap of the second quarter, but the Pirates (4-1) answered with Mekhi Johnson’s scoring catch. Mitchell George returned an interception 19 yards to put the Pirates ahead 13-7, and John Lemmons ran for two second-half touchdowns. 

Lemmons finished with 158 yards on 25 carries. Pirates quarterback Landon Croff passed for 142 yards and the touchdown to Johnson. 

Austin Sause also had an interception for the Pirates. 

Tillamook 39, Seaside 14

Zeyon Hurliman made two touchdown catches, Tanner Hoskins threw two touchdown passes, and Judah Werner had two touchdown runs to lead the Cheesemakers (3-2, 1-0 Cowapa League) past the host Seagulls (2-3, 0-1) at Broadway Field. 

Tanner Kraushaar and Brady Jackson rushed for touchdowns for the Seagulls.

St. Helens 34, Astoria 33

Brayden Rogers returned an interception for a touchdown and later scored what looked like a decisive touchdown with 3:33 left, but the Fishermen (0-5, 0-1) couldn’t hold on to the lead in the Cowapa League loss to the visiting Lions (3-2, 1-0) at CMH Field. 

The Lions closed to within one possession with two minutes left and then recovered an onside kick. They drove and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:07 remaining.

The Fishermen answered with a drive that ended on an end-zone interception with 47 seconds left. 

Niko Boudreau had a big night running and passing for the Fishermen. 

Woodburn 42, Gladstone 21

Ty Beyer ran for four touchdowns and the Bulldogs pulled away from a 21-21 tie in the fourth quarter to defeat the visiting Gladiators (2-2, 0-1 Tri-Valley Conference).

Cruz Veliz and Carter Pickett each ran for a touchdown for the Bulldogs (4-1, 1-0). Beyer had 11 total tackles. 

La Salle Prep 39, Parkrose 12

Manu Tanzambi rushed for more than 100 yards and two touchdowns as the Falcons of Milwaukie downed the visiting Broncos (0-5, 0-1 Tri-Valley Conference) of Northeast Portland. 

The Falcons (1-4, 1-0) entered having scored 35 points in their first four games. Nathaniel Dominitz passed for two La Salle Prep touchdowns. 

La Salle Prep’s Mason Mueller returned an interception for a touchdown and ran for a score. He had five tackles and four pass breakups on defense. Dayne Lavoie booked 13 tackles and made an interception. 

Sophia Clasen carried twice for 12 yards for the Falcons. 

Stayton 33, Philomath 14

Ty Borde rushed for three touchdowns and was a force on defense for the Eagles (3-2, 2-1 Oregon West Conference) in the victory over the host Warriors.

Kaden Muir returned an interception for a touchdown and scored on a two-yard quarterback keeper for the Warriors (1-4, 1-2). 

Borde made nine tackles (two for loss) and forced a fumble. Jace Aguilar and Kale Hubert had interceptions, and Chance Ellingsworth made eight tackles for the Eagles.

North Bend 52, Klamath Union 6

Quarterback Cole Hansen directed the Bulldogs’ offense to the win over the Pelicans (2-3, 1-2 Big Sky Conference), who scored on a second-half kickoff return by Javan Zumwalt. 

The host Bulldogs (2-3, 1-2) got strong play from sophomore Isaiah Dibella and their offensive line and benefited from a defense that kept the Pelicans in check on the ground and in the passing game. 

Crook County 26, The Dalles 0

Eddie Freauff had a 69-yard touchdown run for the Cowboys (3-2, 1-0) of Prineville in the Greater Oregon League win over the Riverhawks (1-3, 0-1) at the Wahtonka campus in The Dalles.

The Cowboys’ Palmer Smith had a big night rushing and was strong on defense in the shutout. 

CLASS 3A

North Marion 33, Valley Catholic 8

Freshman Alex Adams passed for 270 yards and a touchdown for the Valiants, who were hurt by turnovers in the Coastal Range League loss to the visiting Huskies (3-2, 2-1) of Aurora.

North Marion returned an interception for a score and recovered a fumble for another touchdown off a Valley Catholic turnover. 

Noah Holub had five catches for 75 yards for the Valiants (0-4, 0-3) of Beaverton. Jackson Farris picked up 78 yards on 13 carries. 

CLASS 1A

Lost River 51, Bonanza 0

Connor Dunlea ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass on a flea flicker to quarterback Chase McAuliffe as the Raiders (4-1, 1-0) opened Mountain Valley League play with an eight-man victory in the Spud Bowl rivalry game against the host Antlers (2-3, 0-1).

Codey Lyman added 109 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, and Nathan Dalton ran for two touchdowns. McAuliffe finished 5 of 8 for 60 yards and ran for 73 yards and a touchdown. 

The Pirates held Bonanza (2-3) to 101 yards of total offense. 

WIAA

West Valley 49, Hermiston 42 

The host Bulldogs (2-3) led 35-27 after three quarters but couldn’t hold on against the Class 4A Rams (3-2) of Yakima, Wash. 

The Rams scored on a blocked punt return and two touchdown passes in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, taking a 49-35 lead. The Bulldogs drew nearer with Isaac Corey’s touchdown run with 4:24 left. 

Corey finished with four rushing touchdowns and two touchdowns passing.
