Oregon high school football Week 8 recap: Top stars, best games, biggest wins

The Oregon high school football season continued this weekend with Week 8 action around the state. 

Here’s a look at some of the best games, top stars and memorable performances.

CLASS 6A

No. 1 Sheldon 56, Grants Pass 6

Brock Thomas passed for six touchdowns and ran for two in the Irish’s victory over the Cavemen (5-3, 3-3 Central/Southwest Valley Conference) at Sheldon High School in Eugene.

Luke Leighton and Isaac Peters made interceptions for the Irish (8-0, 6-0), who were led in tackles by Leighton, Teitum Tuioti and Josh Merriman.

On the receiving end of Thomas’ scoring passes were Tuioti, Cade Welch (three), Leighton and Peters.

The eight touchdowns Thomas accounted for were a career high. He accounted for seven — three passing, four rushing — in the Irish’s opening game of the spring 2021 COVID-19 season, a 48-32 win over Willamette.

Thomas has 30 touchdown passes this season. 

No. 2 West Linn 58, Lakeridge 6

Jackson Shelstad returned a blocked field goal 70 yards for the Lions’ final touchdown in their victory over the host Pacers (2-6, 0-4 Three Rivers League) in Lake Oswego.

The Lions (7-1, 4-0) have scored 121 points in their past two games. 

No. 3 Central Catholic 49, Clackamas 7

Cru Newman (19 of 27, 237 yards) passed for four touchdowns and added 148 yards and a score on the ground for the Rams, who clinched at least a share of the Mt. Hood Conference championship with the win over the visiting Cavaliers (3-5, 2-4) at Hillsboro Stadium.

Solomon McDaniel caught two touchdown passes from Newman and had two solo tackles on defense for the Rams (7-1, 6-0) of Southeast Portland. Grover Melo had three solo tackles (one for loss) and two assists.

Michael Williams, Amari Abraham, Tyler Newbury and Luke Baker also scored for the Rams, who exceeded 45 points for the fourth game in a row. 

No. 4 Jesuit 40, No. 5 Mountainside 10 | Story, photos

Payton Roth had an 80-yard touchdown among his three scores — all in the first half — and the Crusaders defeated the visiting Mavericks in Southwest Portland. 

Roth, who entered with a Class 6A-leading 1,435 rushing yards, picked up 202 on Friday for the Crusaders (7-1, 4-0), who clinched at least a share of the Metro League title. 

Holden Phillips kicked a 35-yard field goal and Sam Vyhlidal had a fourth-quarter rushing touchdown for the Mavericks (7-1, 3-1) of Beaverton. 

No. 6 Tualatin 24, Oregon City 15

Bodan Griffith rushed for three touchdowns, helping the Timberwolves (6-2, 2-2) build a 24-0 lead over the Pioneers in the Three Rivers League game at Tualatin.

Griffith was part of a by-committee running game that accumulated 210 yards. Quarterback Jack Wagner completed 16 of 24 passes for 200 yards.

Marcus Jordan had 18 carries for 108 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns for the Pioneers (4-4, 1-3).

No. 8 Lake Oswego 14, No. 7 Tigard 6

The Lakers (6-2, 3-1 Three Rivers League) held the host Tigers (6-2, 2-2) to a season low in points and got enough offense to collect the win.

Austin Goetz made two interceptions, Roman Martin had one and Brian Smith Jr. recovered a fumble to highlight the Tigers’ defense.

Konner Grant turned a screen pass from Brady Jordan into a long touchdown for the Tigers. 

No. 9 South Salem 42, Sprague 12

Daschel Smith passed for 190 yards and four touchdowns, and the host Saxons (7-1, 5-1 Central/Southwest Valley Conference) downed the Olympians (4-4, 3-3) of Salem.

Tini Tinitali III caught three touchdown passes and ran for a score for the Saxons, who have scored at least 34 points in all eight games.

Smith posted his third straight game — and fifth this season — with at least four touchdown passes. 

No. 10 Westview 40, Beaverton 0

The Wildcats (3-5, 2-2 Metro League) of Northwest Portland posted their second consecutive shutout and got 245 yards and three touchdowns rushing from Jordan Fisher in the victory over the visiting Beavers (1-7, 1-3).

Max Baker was in on five tackles — one for loss — for the Beavers.

The Hawks (6-1, 5-1 Mt. Hood Conference) won their fourth game in a row, pulling away from a 14-7 halftime lead in the victory over the Pioneers (4-4, 4-2) at Sandy High School. 

Nelson, in its second season, clinched no worse than a tie for second place in the Mt. Hood Conference. 

Reid Gray caught two touchdown passes and Luke Womack caught one from Avirey Durdahl in the sophomore quarterback’s fourth game with three or more touchdown passes. Jaidon Siler, coming off a five-touchdown game last week, ran for one score.

On defense, the Hawks got four tackles for loss from Alex Leontyuk and second-half pass breakups from Vlade Thilavanh and Luke Womack. 

Billy Lucas (11 of 22, 155 yards) passed to Payton Giusto for one Pioneers touchdown, and Leithan Thompson had the other.

Sherwood 42, Glencoe 7

The Bowmen bolted to a 14-0 lead in the first four minutes and rode their defense and special teams to clinch at least a share of the Pacific Conference title with the victory over the host Crimson Tide at Hare Field in Hillsboro.

The Bowmen (6-2, 4-0) recovered two fumbles and got an interception by Evan Morris. Vincente Zepeda blocked a punt, and Oliver Fisher returned it 20 yards for a touchdown. 

A 40-yard pass from Kasen Covert to Fisher set up the Bowmen’s first touchdown, and on the first snap after recovering a Crimson Tide fumble, Covert passed to Fisher for a 29-yard score and the 14-0 lead. 

Lucas Anthony had eight carries for 54 yards for the Crimson Tide (2-6, 1-3), who had two starters in the offensive backfield get hurt. 

Liberty 31, McMinnville 21

Reid Linkmeyer, Tanner Steinbach, Houstyn Lee-Perry and Vincent Cabezudo each rushed for a touchdown for the Falcons, who downed the visiting Grizzlies (4-4, 2-2 Pacific Conference) in Hillsboro.

Cabezudo picked up 98 yards on the ground on seven carries.

Steinbach made 10 tackles to lead the defense for the Falcons (5-3, 3-1). Lee-Perry had seven tackles with a sack and two tackles for loss.

The Falcons had a seven-point lead and got insurance points on a field goal by Zane Kiser to go ahead 31-21 with 1:41 left. 

Century 33, Newberg 28

Strong defense helped the Jaguars build a 21-0 first-half lead in the win over the visiting Tigers (4-4, 1-3 Pacific Conference) in Hillsboro.

Elijah Garcia had 230 all-purpose yards and scored two touchdowns, and Anthony Martinez racked up 100 yards and two touchdowns receiving for the Jaguars (3-5, 1-3). 

Gresham 49, David Douglas 14

Andre Miller had 141 yards from scrimmage, two interceptions — one he ran back for a touchdown — and five tackles to lead the Gophers (2-5, 1-5 Mt. Hood Conference) to the win over the visiting Scots (0-8, 0-6) of Southeast Portland. 

Jaden Mitchell ran for two scores, Jaxon Doving had one touchdown each rushing and receiving, and Calanie Buss scored on a 36-yard run for the Gophers.

The Gophers got a special-teams score on Cameron Buss’ 90-yard kickoff return, and Colton Gaffney (two sacks), Carlos Martinez (two sacks) and LaRone Artego (two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery) stood out on defense. 

The Scots were without five starters, four of whom start on both sides of the ball.

Barlow 35, Reynolds 12

Hunter MacDonald (26 carries, 133 yards) ran for two touchdowns for the Bruins in the Mt. Hood Conference win over the host Raiders (4-4, 2-4) of Troutdale at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham. 

MacDonald went 49 yards on Barlow's second offensive play for his first touchdown. Sentori Martino and Cole Gallant caught touchdown passes for the Bruins (4-4, 4-2) of Gresham. 

Sunset 36, Aloha 6

Cole Massar returned a punt for a touchdown and rushed for a score, pacing the Apollos (4-4, 2-2 Metro League) of Northwest Portland to the win over the host Warriors (0-8, 0-4), who got a fourth-quarter touchdown run from Damien Lopez.

The Apollos’ Drew Nees ran for a score and passed to Blake Hurley for another for the Apollos. Liam Brown had a one-yard touchdown run to push Sunset to a 29-0 lead.

North Medford 52, McNary 6

Alexander Angulo (13 carries, 127 yards) ran for three touchdowns, and the defense for the Black Tornado (5-3, 5-1 Central/Southwest Valley Conference) locked down the host Celtics (0-8, 0-6) in Keizer. 

The Celtics’ Jabol Balos scored on a long touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

South Medford 37, Roseburg 0

Deacon Edgar passed for four touchdowns — two to Andrew Walker — and ran for another to lead the Panthers to the win over Roseburg (0-7, 0-6 Central/Southwest Valley Conference) at Spiegelberg Stadium in Medford. 

Edgar ran for his touchdown and was 11 of 13 with three scoring passes in the first half. His only incompletions before intermission were interceptions by Roseburg.

Ty Henry caught a 14-yard touchdown pass to end the Panthers’ first possession, and after an interception produced a short field, Edgar ran in from the 1 to add to the lead.

Roseburg drove deep into Panthers territory before throwing an interception, which South Medford (6-2, 4-2) converted into an 80-yard drive capped by Walker’s first touchdown catch for a 25-0 lead. 

Edgar and Ryder Scheid connected on a 52-yard score in the third quarter.

Roseburg lost James Coleman, the first-team all-Southwest Conference center last season, early in the game. 

Dylan Espinosa, Ajani Ingram and Dason Jackson made interceptions for South Medford.

The victory was coach Bill Singler’s 150th in 25 seasons with the Panthers. 

North Salem 31, West Salem 6 

Erick Gonzalez returned an interception for a touchdown early, setting the tone for the Vikings in their victory over the visiting Titans (1-7, 1-5 Central/Southwest Valley Conference).

Gonzalez finished with two interceptions. Jamar Soaladoab also picked off a Titans pass.

Jerrik Wangler carried 13 times for 65 yards and two scores for the Vikings (5-3, 3-3). Josiah Davis had 105 yards from scrimmage and caught a touchdown pass.

Quarterback TC Manumaleuna II was 8 of 14 for 110 yards and a touchdown. 

Jefferson 29, Lincoln 0

The Democrats of North Portland capitalized on eight takeaways to defeat the host Cardinals (1-7, 1-5 Portland Interscholastic League) at Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School in Southwest Portland.

Mykell King and Isaiah Matthews recovered fumbles, with Matthews’ recovery in the end zone for a touchdown. D’Marieon Gates returned an interception for a touchdown, Montral Brazile Jr. had two interceptions, and Jeray Mott made two interceptions for the Democrats (5-3, 5-1).

“We moved the ball well and played well on defense,” Cardinals coach Matt Caruso said in a text. “Our downfall tonight was self-inflicted wounds. It seemed as though every time we put together a great drive, we would put the ball on the ground.

“The kids gave it their all and rallied behind the seniors on Senior Night. We just couldn’t get out of our own way.” 

Grant 70, McDaniel 6

The Generals (6-2, 6-0) led 30-0 after the first quarter and held an opponent to seven points or fewer for the fifth straight game, defeating the Mountain Lions (0-8, 0-6) at McDaniel High School in a Portland Interscholastic League game between Northeast Portland schools.

Seven players scored for the Generals, who forced five turnovers and scored a safety and a touchdown on defense.

The Generals’ Jayden Moses got hit on a first-quarter touchdown and suffered a season-ending broken leg, coach Alex Melson said. Moses was a first-team all-PIL linebacker last season. 

Roosevelt 18, Franklin 8

Dontrell Betts ran 50 yards for a touchdown on the Roughriders’ first play from scrimmage and Nywaun Campbell caught two touchdown passes in the Portland Interscholastic League win over the Lightning at Franklin High School in Southeast Portland.

The Lightning (4-3, 3-3) went ahead 8-6 on Jemall Brumfield’s touchdown run and an ensuing two-point conversion. 

Campbell’s first touchdown catch put the Roughriders (5-3, 5-1) of North Portland ahead for good in the final minute of the first half, and they added to their lead on Campbell’s second scoring catch, on the Roughriders’ first possession after halftime.

Robert Anthony III had important long runs on offense and made an interception as part of a Roughriders defense that also recovered two fumbles.

Wells 44, Cleveland 16

Jackson Poole made an interception, and the Guardians (4-4, 3-3) of Southwest Portland stopped a possession by the Warriors (2-6, 1-5) that achieved a first-and-goal from the 2-yard line in the Portland Interscholastic League win at Cleveland High School in Southeast Portland.

CLASS 5A

No. 1 Summit 49, No. 9 Mountain View 23

The Storm (7-1, 4-0 Intermountain Conference) of Northeast Bend built a 28-17 halftime lead en route to defeating the host Cougars (5-3, 3-1) of Northeast Bend.

Kaden Alayan returned an interception to pull the Cougars within 13-10 in the second quarter before the Storm pulled away for their seventh consecutive win. Connor Crum threw touchdowns passes to Greyson Harms and Jack Foley. 

No. 2 Wilsonville 42, Forest Grove 0 

The Wildcats (6-2, 4-0) earned a spot in the Northwest Oregon Conference championship game by shutting out the Vikings (3-5, 3-2) in Forest Grove. 

Wilsonville, which has shut out back-to-back opponents, will play Putnam of Milwaukie next week. 

The Wildcats forced three takeaways — two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Cooper Hiday caught three touchdown passes, Mark Wiepert caught one, and quarterback Kallen Gutridge and Jacob Ogden each ran for a score. 

No. 3 Bend, 41, Ridgeview 6

Malakai Nutter (25 carries, 187 yards) ran for four touchdowns to power the host Lava Bears past the Ravens (1-7, 0-4 Intermountain Conference) of Redmond.

Jeremiah Schwartz scored on a 60-yard connection with Aidan Brenneman for the Ravens’ touchdown, which made the score 6-6 with two minutes left in the first quarter.

Nutter scored a touchdown in each quarter, each on runs of five yards or less. Jack Sorenson had a 13-yard touchdown run, and Logan Malinowski connected with Austin Baker on a 45-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter as the Lava Bears (7-1, 3-1) scored 35 unanswered points. 

No. 4 Thurston 54, Willamette 0

Noah Blair passed for four touchdowns, and seven players scored touchdowns for the Colts (6-2, 6-0 Midwestern League) in the win over the visiting Wolverines of Eugene in Springfield. 

Corren Hester forced a fumble and returned it for a touchdown for the Colts, who got sacks from Romynn Schaefer, Vaun Halstead and Hester. 

The Wolverines’ defense made a fumble recovery and an interception.

No. 10 West Albany 21, No. 5 Silverton 20

The Bulldogs (5-2, 5-2 Mid-Willamette Conference) blocked a potential tying point-after kick with 6:45 left, preserving their one-point lead in the win over the host Foxes.

A touchdown pass from Sawyer Teeney to Cohen Mulick brought the Foxes (6-2, 6-1) within 21-20.

The Foxes outgained the Bulldogs 385 yards to 268 and had almost twice the time of possession as West Albany. 

The Foxes led 7-0 at halftime on Jackson Pfeifer’s touchdown run. In the third quarter, Alex Briseno’s 15-yard touchdown run was sandwiched by Bulldogs touchdowns by Tyler Hart-McNally and Lukas Hews.

The Bulldogs went ahead with 27 seconds left in the third on Marcus Allen’s three-yard run.

Pfeifer had 16 carries for 134 yards.

No. 6 Central 31, No. 8 Dallas 10

Andrew Eames and Javier Landeros made interceptions as part of a Panthers defense that held the visiting Dragons (4-3, 4-3 Mid-Willamette Conference) to a season scoring low.

Chase W Nelson, who hurt an ankle on the Panthers’ first drive, passed for three touchdowns. Myles Crandall caught two touchdown passes, and Kohler Hernandez scored once rushing and once receiving for the Panthers (6-2, 6-2) of Independence.

The Dragons scored on a safety in the first half and on Zayvian Webster’s touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Defensively, the Dragons were led by Sean Ward (eight tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks) and Dominic Sobota (six tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, one pass breakup). 

Putnam 34, Canby 19

Konnor Bickford passed for four touchdowns and the Kingsmen never trailed in defeating the visiting Cougars (5-3, 2-2 Northwest Oregon Conference).

The Kingsmen (8-0, 4-0) of Milwaukie will play No. 2 Wilsonville or Forest Grove — who meet Saturday — for the NWOC championship next week.

As lofty as the Kingsmen’s record was entering Friday’s game, the team’s schedule invited scrutiny. Putnam’s first four opponents were teams that play Class 4A football and entered Week 8 with a combined record of 7-21. The three Class 5A teams the Kingsmen beat before Friday had a combined record of 5-16.

“All the credit goes to Putnam,” Cougars coach Jimmy Joyce said in a text. “They really played a good game.”

The Kingsmen’s James Bauman had touchdown catches of 65 and 72 yards in the first half, and Tyler Creswick also caught two touchdown passes — including a 59-yard score on the first snap after the Cougars drew within 21-19 on their first drive of the third quarter. 

Tyler Konold, an all-state Class 5A running back last season who has endured injury this season, scored a touchdown and rushed for more than 100 yards despite being less than 100 percent healthy. Parker Ackerman, also playing dinged up, also scored for the Cougars. 

Jaxon Doyle ran for the Kingsmen’s other touchdown. 

Hillsboro 41, Southridge 21 

Preston Doran ran for two touchdowns and made eight tackles — two for loss — to help the visiting Spartans defeat the Skyhawks (5-3, 3-3 Northwest Oregon Conference) in Beaverton. 

The Spartans (4-4, 2-3) piled up 566 yards of offense and got touchdowns from five players. 

Jack Klee passed to Matthew Nichols for a touchdown midway through the first quarter, pulling the Skyhawks even at 7-7. The Spartans took control and led 27-14 at halftime and 41-14 early in the fourth.

Preston Echevarria had 11 carries for 145 yards and a score for the Spartans. Both quarterbacks, Ian Ingram and Calvin Perkins, ran for a touchdown, and Ingram passed to Dylan Ott for a 32-yard score. Nahum Chavez caught four passes for 101 yards.

Ott was in on nine tackles (two unassisted).

Klee finished 10 of 15. Cade Mitchell also threw a touchdown pass for the Skyhawks. Jackson Powell had 12 tackles, two for loss. 

Hood River Valley (2-5, 2-2) at Centennial (0-7, 0-5), 7 p.m. Monday 

Lebanon 35, Crescent Valley 7

Lebanon (3-4, 3-4 Mid-Willamette Conference) rushed for nearly 400 yards in defeating the host Raiders (1-7, 1-6) in Corvallis. 

Darius Freeman, Hayden George and Andreus Smith rushed for touchdowns for Lebanon, which limited the Raiders to less than 100 yards of total offense.

McKay 42, Corvallis 25

Jamahl Wilson piled up 250 yards and four touchdowns rushing to drive the host Royal Scots to the Mid-Willamette Conference win over the Spartans (0-8, 0-7) in Salem. 

Kyrin Fuimaono had more than 200 yards passing and connected with Anthony Justice (100 receiving yards) for two scores. Fuiamaono contributed on defense with an interception. 

Strong offensive line play helped Wilson record his third 200-yard rushing game in the past four weeks. In the four games dating to Week 5, Wilson has accumulated more than 1,025 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns for the Royal Scots (2-6, 2-5). 

Caldera 20, Redmond 19

The Panthers rallied from a 14-0 hole but had their would-be tying point-after kick in the final minute blocked as the first-year Wolfpack (3-5, 2-2 Intermountain Conference) held on for their third win in their past five games.

The Panthers (2-6, 0-4) mounted their comeback in part on the receiving exploits of Nathan Wachs and John Brabb. 

A defensive stop turned into Redmond’s second touchdown, and the Panthers were within 14-13 after a failed two-point conversion with less than three minutes to go. 

North Eugene 22, Springfield 13

Devon Anderson ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as the Highlanders (4-4, 3-3 Midwestern League) downed the Millers (5-3, 4-2) in Springfield.

Churchill 13, Crater 7 (OT) 

Pete Pennington’s 10-yard touchdown run in overtime pushed the Lancers to the Midwestern League win over the Comets (2-6, 1-5) of Central Point in Eugene. 

With 2:25 left in the fourth quarter, the Lancers (3-5, 3-3) blocked a potential winning 28-yard field goal by the Comets. 

Pennington had a three-yard touchdown to put the Lancers ahead two minutes after halftime, and the Comets tied it on a three-yard run by Ben Higginson. 

Eagle Point 49, South Eugene 3

Bryton Livingston passed for three scores — two to Kaden Huff — David Brown ran for three touchdowns, and Hayden Weaver logged two sacks and three tackles for loss as the Eagles (6-2, 5-1 Midwestern League) downed the host Axe (1-7, 0-6).

CLASS 4A

No. 1 Mazama 44, No. 5 Henley 36

Tyson Van Gastel’s one-yard touchdown run broke the final tie with 42 seconds left, and Brendon Montieth tipped and intercepted a pass behind the line of scrimmage on the Hornets’ final drive to lock down the Big Sky Conference win in a matchup of Klamath Falls schools.

The Hornets (7-1, 4-1) pulled into a 36-36 tie with 7:12 left, with Logan Whitlock rushing for a touchdown and then a two-point conversion at Henley High School.

The Vikings (8-0, 5-0), who led 22-8, pulled away from a 22-22 score with two touchdowns in quick succession. 

Trevor Anderson scored from the 30 on a fourth-and-2 play, leading to a 30-22 Vikings lead. On the Hornets’ ensuing possession, the Vikings got a takeaway in Hornets territory when Tyler Aguiar stripped the ball after a completed pass and Montieth recovered the fumble. On the second play after the turnover, Brody Hubble took an option pitch around the left end for a 21-yard touchdown and a 36-22 score.

The Hornets responded, making it 36-28 early in the fourth quarter, and tied it on Whitlock’s second rushing touchdown. 

On the kickoff after Van Gastel’s touchdown in the final minute, a Vikings penalty set up the Hornets at their 45. On second-and-3, Montieth burst into the backfield, tipped a pass into the air and gobbled up the ball to quash the Hornets’ hopes of another comeback. 

Shaw Stork passed to Owen Cheyne and Tyler Harper for Hornets touchdowns.

No. 2 Estacada 60, Parkrose 7

Eight seniors scored touchdowns for the Rangers (7-1, 4-0 Tri-Valley Conference) in their win over the Broncos (0-8, 0-4) of Northeast Portland on Senior Night at Estacada. 

No. 3 Marist Catholic 27, No. 10 Cascade 22

In the teams’ third meeting in the past 54 weeks, the visiting Spartans (7-1, 5-0 Oregon West Conference) never trailed in defeating the Cougars (4-4, 3-2) of Turner.

Jackson Gibeau passed for three touchdowns, AJ Sargent caught five passes (three for touchdowns) and Parker Nelson ran for a score for the Spartans of Eugene.

Last season, the Cougars defeated the Spartans 38-33 in Week 6. They met in the quarterfinals of the OSAA Class 4A playoffs, where the Spartans won the rematch 62-35. 

No. 6 La Grande 33, No. 4 Pendleton 20

The Tigers (6-2, 4-0 Greater Oregon League) bolted to a 20-0 first-quarter lead in the win over the Buckaroos (6-2, 3-1) in Pendleton.

The Tigers forced three turnovers and scored after each of them.

“Our team played awesome together,” Tigers coach Rich McIlmoil said in a text.

Payton Lambert ran for all three of the Buckaroos’ touchdowns. 

Tillamook 17, No. 7 Scappoose 14

Tanner Hoskins kicked a school-record 45-yard field goal in overtime and the Cheesemakers (6-2, 4-0 Cowapa League) clinched at least a share of their first league title since 1999 with the victory over visiting Scappoose.

On the first possession of overtime, Scappoose (6-2, 3-1) had a first-and-goal but was stopped on fourth down from the 1, typifying the team’s missed red-zone scoring opportunities.

The Cheesemakers scored in the fourth quarter to forge a 14-14 score. On its final possession in regulation, Scappoose missed a field goal try from about 40 yards in the final seconds.

Trey Dieringer rushed for a Scappoose score, and Max Nowlin passed to Chase Olson for the team’s other touchdown. 

Crook County 48, No. 8 Baker 31

Eddie Freauff made an impact with his receiving and returned two interceptions for touchdowns, and Palmer Smith was instrumental in the running game, helping the Cowboys (4-4, 2-2 Greater Oregon League) come back and defeat the Bulldogs in Prineville.

The Bulldogs (5-3, 2-2) led 13-0 but trailed 20-13 at halftime and hurt their cause with three turnovers in the second half. 

No. 9 Marshfield 28, Hidden Valley 0

Landon Croff passed to Drake Rogers and David Bouska for touchdowns and John Lemmons (18 carries, 136 yards) and Austin Sause ran for scores for the Pirates, who defeated the visiting Mustangs (2-6, 1-5 Big Sky Conference) in Coos Bay. 

Johnny Calvert made an interception for the Pirates (6-2, 4-1), who held the Mustangs of Grants Pass to minus-six yards of offense in the first half. 

Woodburn 41, La Salle Prep 0

Ty Beyer retuned an interception for a touchdown, Cruz Veliz returned a punt for a touchdown and passed for a score, and the Bulldogs (7-1, 4-0 Tri-Valley Conference) handled the host Falcons (2-6, 2-2) of Milwaukie. 

Seaside 28, Astoria 0

Tanner Kraushaar rushed for two touchdowns and the host Seagulls (4-4, 2-2 Cowapa League) posted their second consecutive shutout in the victory over the Fishermen (0-8, 0-4) at Broadway Field. 

Milwaukie 43, St. Helens 31

The Mustangs (5-3, 2-2 Cowapa League) capitalized on four first-half turnovers by the visiting Lions (3-5, 1-3) to build a lead that stood up in the second half.

Mustangs quarterback Kaden Harris accounted for five touchdowns, including one rushing. The Mustangs’ defense was highlighted by Antonio Aguilar’s three sacks and Tate Brandon’s two interceptions.

The Lions trailed 21-8 at halftime and clawed back to 35-31 before the Mustangs got an insurance score with about two minutes left. 

Gladstone 27, Molalla 0

Fynn Brechbiel registered double-digit tackles to spark the Gladiators’ defense in the shutout win at Molalla (0-8, 0-4 Tri-Valley Conference).

Brayde Owen ran for two touchdowns and passed to Hayden Smith and Ethan Finnigan for two more. Smith, Finnigan and Victor Tivao were strong in the running game for the Gladiators (4-3, 2-2). 

Stayton 40, Sweet Home 20

Tanner Starbuck intercepted three passes and made 14 tackles to lead the Eagles’ defense in the Oregon West Conference victory over the visiting Huskies (3-5, 1-4).

Heath Nichol ran for two scores and passed for another for the Huskies.

Bishop Szmyd broke up five passes and made five tackles for the Eagles (6-2, 4-1), who won their fourth game in a row.

The Eagles’ Ty Borde carried 28 times for 210 yards and a touchdown and scored a 39-yard touchdown on his lone reception. On defense, Borde had an interception and made nine tackles. 

Junction City 50, Cottage Grove 13

Levi Walker carried six times for 108 yards, helping the visiting Tigers (6-2, 4-1 Oregon West Conference) down the Lions (0-8, 0-6).

North Bend 33, Ashland 27 (OT)

The Bulldogs rallied from a 19-0 halftime deficit and grabbed the Big Sky Conference win over the Grizzlies (1-7, 0-5) in North Bend.

North Bend (4-4, 3-2) stopped the Grizzlies’ overtime possession on the 3-yard line, and Bulldogs quarterback Cole Hansen ran in from the 4 for the victory on North Bend’s possession.

The winning run was Hansen’s second rushing touchdown of the game, and the quarterback passed to Sam Mickelson for another score. Isaiah Dibella also rushed for a Bulldogs touchdown.

The Grizzlies’ Gavin White rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Talon Hernandez and Ray Hart each had 10 tackles and Hank Stringer returned an interception for a touchdown. 

Philomath 35, Klamath Union 6

Warwick Bushnell scored on an interception return and a pass play — both of about 50 yards — to pace the Warriors (2-6) to the big-play home-field win over the Pelicans (2-6). 

Tony Ortiz caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Wayce Saluskin for the Pelicans, who got a strong game on defense, particularly on the pass rush, from Lamar Cuellar.

David Griffith had two touchdown runs — one of 65 yards — and Kaden Muir scored on a quarterback sneak for the Warriors, who ended a four-game losing streak.

Banks 56, Valley Catholic 0

Caden Harris rushed for 132 yards and three touchdowns, Jackson Lyda scored on punt returns of 65 and 50 yards, and Banks (8-0, 5-0 Coastal Range League) defeated the visiting Valiants (1-6, 1-4) of Beaverton.

Hermiston 44, Pasco 20

Isaac Corey ran for four touchdowns and passed to Dale Krebs for two, leading the Hermiston Bulldogs (3-5, 3-4 Mid-Columbia Conference) to the victory over the Pasco Bulldogs (0-8, 0-7) in Hermiston.
