Dallas 79, Crescent Valley 71: Wild 5A Oregon football game gets all kinds of entries in the record book

The teams combined for 150 points, the most by two teams in the modern era of Oregon high school football

How crazy was Dallas’ 79-71 victory over Crescent Valley in the teams’ Mid-Willamette Conference finale Thursday night in Dallas?

The teams combined for 150 points, the most scored by two teams in the modern era of Oregon high school football (post-1950). Only Estacada’s 162-0 victory over Milwaukie in 1913 had more points.

The Dragons broke the 5A record for points scored in a game. Their 79 points matched Central Catholic’s total in its season-ending victory at David Douglas on Thursday and Lakeridge in 2014 for the 10th-most by a team in the modern era.

Crescent Valley’s 71 points were the second-most in state history by a losing team, behind Sunset’s 72 in a 75-72 playoff loss to Oregon City in the 6A first round in 2017.

Dallas (5-3, 5-3 MWC) kept its playoff hopes alive by holding off the Raiders’ comeback. The Dragons earn an automatic berth if West Albany (5-2, 5-2) loses Friday at home to McKay.

Otherwise, the Dragons remained 14th in the OSAA rankings following Thursday’s games, behind two NWOC teams — Canby (No. 11) and Southridge (No. 12) — who are in action Friday.
