Oregon high school football Week 9 recap: Top stars, best games, biggest wins

The Oregon high school football season continued this weekend with Week 9 action around the state. 

Here’s a look at some of the best games, top stars and memorable performances.

CLASS 6A

No. 1 Sheldon 41, West Salem 0

Brock Thomas passed for 392 yards and five touchdowns, leading the Irish of Eugene to victory over the host Titans (1-8, 1-6) and the undisputed Central/Southwest Valley Conference championship.

Teitum Tuioti made six catches for 124 yards, and Luke Leighton (five for 100) also hit the century mark in receiving yards.

Thomas also led the Irish (9-0, 7-0) in rushing with 64 yards on nine carries. 

No. 2 West Linn 55, Oregon City 13 

Marcus Jordan and Ben Schneider ran for second-half touchdowns for the Pioneers (4-5, 1-4) in the loss to the visiting Lions, who got six touchdown passes from Sam Leavitt and wrapped up sole possession of the Three Rivers League championship. 

Leavitt passed for five scores in the first quarter for the Lions (8-1, 5-0), including two each to Mark Hamper and Gus Donnerberg. 

No. 3 Central Catholic 79, David Douglas 0

The Rams secured sole possession of the Mt. Hood Conference championship with the victory over the host Scots (0-9, 0-7) of Southeast Portland.

Timothy Mitchell Jr., in his first game since he suffered an ankle injury in Week 2, gained 87 yards on two punt returns, including one for a touchdown, and had an eight-yard scoring run — all in the first four minutes.

The Rams (8-1, 7-0) of Southeast Portland threatened a host of school and state scoring records in their third shutout of the season.

Cru Newman completed 5 of 7 passes (season lows in both categories) for 122 yards with touchdown throws to Zhaiel Smith, Amari Abraham and Cade Gehlen.

Ryan Anthony ran for two touchdowns. Tyler Newbury, Tyson Davis, Richelor Pierznik and Gehlen also scored on the ground.

Kainoa Hayes made 2½ tackles — each for a loss — and a strip sack. Zach Davis, Roan Beaupre and Newbury made 2½ tackles.

Mitchell, who had three nonoffensive touchdowns in the final eight weeks of last season, has two in two-plus games this season.

No. 4 Jesuit 63, Beaverton 13

Six players scored touchdowns for the Crusaders, who defeated the visiting Beavers (1-8, 1-4) and locked up the outright Metro League championship. 

The second of Thatcher Killian’s two touchdown runs put the Crusaders (8-1, 5-0) of Southwest Portland ahead 56-0 in the third quarter. 

Garrett Speer and Lonnie Burt also ran for two scores for the Crusaders, who got touchdown catches from Matt Eilers and Grant Valley. 

Lakeridge 14, No. 5 Lake Oswego 9 

Joey Olsen scored on a 30-yard touchdown catch and quarterback Ryan Oliver ran in from two yards out, driving the Pacers past the host Lakers (6-3, 3-2 Three Rivers League) in the Lake Oswego rivalry game. 

The Pacers (3-6, 1-4) led 14-0 at halftime. The Lakers’ Owen West scored on a 97-yard pass play with seven minutes left to make the score 14-7. 

Lakeridge took a safety in the final seconds. The Pacers’ defense held the Lakers scoreless three times after Lake Oswego got inside the Lakeridge 20-yard line. 

“Our defense played amazing,” Pacers coach Spencer Phillips said in a text, also praising Oliver, who had about 300 yards of total offense. “He carried the team. … Made crucial plays and showed great leadership.” 

No. 6 Mountainside 42, Aloha 0

Aaron rey Simpson (10 carries, 167 yards) rushed for two touchdowns, and the Mavericks (8-1, 4-1 Metro League) booked their second shutout of the season with the victory over the visiting Warriors (0-9, 0-5) in Beaverton.

Alex Ingalls completed 9 of 13 passes, connecting with Brayden Boe and Holden Phillips for touchdowns. Sam Vyhlidal ran for a touchdown. 

No. 7 Tualatin 31, No. 8 Tigard 21

Jack Wagner and AJ Noland connected on a 99-yard touchdown, highlighting the Timberwolves’ offense in the win over the visiting Tigers. 

The Timberwolves (7-2, 3-2 Three Rivers League) broke away from a 7-7 first-quarter score with 21 consecutive points. Noland finished with two touchdowns, and Luke Ash rushed for two scores. 

Nate Duenas returned a punt 65 yards for the Tigers’ first score. Brady Jordan (17 of 36, 303 yards) threw touchdown passes to Ethan Cate and Duenas in the final 12 minutes, five seconds, for the Tigers (6-3, 2-3). 

No. 8 Westview 37, Sunset 7

Jordan Fisher carried 26 times for 309 yards and five touchdowns in the Wildcats’ win over the host Apollos (4-5, 2-3 Metro League) of Northwest Portland.

Fisher hiked his season total to 1,781 yards with his second 300-yard game of the season. He scored on runs of 1, 6, 74, 72 and 36 yards. His five touchdowns are one off his career high, set in the first round of last season’s OSAA Class 6A playoffs. 

Gunner Jorgensen and Campbell Sager had two tackles for loss apiece for the Wildcats (4-5, 3-2) of Northwest Portland, who locked up the Metro’s final automatic berth to the OSAA playoffs. 

Drew Nees scored on a four-yard run late in the first quarter and the Apollos led 7-6 before the Wildcats took control. Sunset mustered 106 yards of total offense.

No. 10 South Salem 33, North Salem 14

Esteban Mendez caught three of Daschel Smith’s four touchdown passes, helping the Saxons defeat the host Vikings (5-4, 3-4 Central/Southwest Valley Conference). 

The Vikings were within five points, 19-14, midway through the fourth quarter and had the ball at the Saxons’ 10-yard line when a bad snap resulted in a turnover that South Salem (8-1, 6-1) turned into a touchdown. 

The Vikings’ Erick Gonzalez caught a touchdown pass from TC Manumaleuna II, who passed for about 150 yards with the score and an interception. DeMari Thompson ran for a Vikings touchdown, and Josiah Davis gained about 40 yards on the ground.

Smith logged his fourth consecutive game with at least four touchdown passes. Mendez finished with 154 yards on 11 catches. Jaxon Watson had the Saxons’ other touchdown catch, and Braedy Vogt scored on a 32-yard run. 

Nelson 40, Gresham 0

The Hawks (7-1, 6-1 Mt. Hood Conference) of Happy Valley got seven turnovers and returned a blocked punt for a touchdown in the victory over the visiting Gophers (2-6, 1-6).

The Gophers’ Seth Braaten had eight tackles, one for loss, and a fumble recovery.

After Owen Hunt blocked a punt, Reid Gray returned it for the Hawks’ first score. Luke Womack and Alex Nita each made two interceptions, with Womack returning one of his for a touchdown. 

Barlow 14, Sandy 3

Nathan Greenup and Cassius Davis made fourth-quarter interceptions to help the Bruins protect their lead in the Mt. Hood Conference win over the visiting Pioneers.

Hunter MacDonald (32 carries, 106 yards) and Boaz Amadio (13 for 80) rushed for touchdowns for the Bruins (5-4, 5-2) of Gresham. 

The Pioneers (4-5, 4-3) got a field goal from Marco Torres and 65 receiving yards from Leithan Thompson.

Clackamas 34, Reynolds 7

Senior Blake Baker returned after missing two games and passed for three touchdowns, leading the Cavaliers (4-5, 3-4 Mt. Hood Conference) past the visiting Raiders (4-5, 2-5) of Troutdale on Clackamas’ Senior Night. 

Sherwood 20, Liberty 19 

The host Bowmen made three crucial fourth-down stops in the second half, blocked a point-after kick and made a sack on a potential winning two-point conversion to subdue the Falcons and secure the outright Pacific Conference championship.

Reid Linkmeyer’s 18-yard touchdown pass to Parker Viner brought the Falcons within one point with 1:08 left. The two-point attempt ended with the Bowmen’s sack.

Nick Gribble, Elijah Douglass and quarterback Kasen Covert ran for touchdowns for the Bowmen (7-2, 5-0).

The Falcons (5-4, 3-2) of Hillsboro led 7-6 after Reid Linkmeyer ran 45 yards for a score in the first quarter. Reid Linkmeyer passed 15 yards to Vincent Cabezudo for a 13-13 score early in the fourth. 

Newberg 48, Glencoe 13 

Five players scored touchdowns for the Tigers, including two each by Hudson Davis and Isaac Heveron, in the win over the visiting Crimson Tide of Hillsboro.

Gannon Willams, Walker Hilton and Jacob Brammer also scored for the Tigers (5-4, 2-3 Pacific Conference), who piled up 312 yards rushing. Davis rushed for 129 yards.

Cayden Mack carried 38 times for 229 yards and both touchdowns for the Crimson Tide (2-7, 1-4), who were without starting quarterback Trevor O’Leary, who was injured in Week 8. 

Century 26, McMinnville 22

Elijah Garcia rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns, the second a go-ahead score with 1:42 left in the Jaguars’ win over the host Grizzlies (4-5, 2-3 Pacific Conference).

Avery Williams returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and Jonny Ellis ran for a score for the Jaguars (4-5, 2-3) of Hillsboro.

After Garcia’s go-ahead score, the Jaguars got a turnover on the ensuing kickoff and ran out the clock. 

North Medford 35, South Medford 0

Jeremiah Robbins led a defense that held the Panthers to about 150 yards of offense in the visiting Black Tornado’s win at Spiegelberg Stadium.

Caiden Lacey, in his first action since leaving Spiegelberg on a stretcher in the Black Tornado’s Week 6 game against Roseburg, passed for 187 yards and three touchdowns to Connor Cesaro (eight catches, 134 yards). 

Ty Pugliano had 19 carries for 139 yards and a touchdown for the Black Tornado (6-3, 6-1 Central/Southwest Valley Conference), who, according to the Mail Tribune, booked their first shutout win in the rivalry since 2006. 

The Panthers (6-3, 4-3) were missing five starters, coach Bill Singler told the Mail Tribune.

Sprague 28, McNary 7

Kaiden Ackerman passed to Jabol Balos for a touchdown and Jordan Ariza and defensive lineman Will Green each made an interception for the Celtics (0-9, 0-7 Central/Southwest Valley Conference) of Keizer in the loss to the host Olympians (5-4, 4-3) of Salem. 

Grants Pass 49, Roseburg 26

Gage Blay rushed for four touchdowns and Trevor Reeves ran for three as the Cavemen (6-3, 4-3 Central/Southwest Valley Conference) topped host Roseburg. 

Roseburg (0-8, 0-7), which used three players at quarterback, posted a season high in points. Freshman Corey Kimball passed for two touchdowns and starter Broagan Rackley threw one, with Jayce Wilder, Cayden Eckel and Boston Williams on the receiving end of the scoring passes. 

Roosevelt 3, Grant 0

Joel Ramirez kicked a 22-yard field goal with four seconds left in the second quarter to lift the Roughriders (6-3, 6-1 Portland Interscholastic League) over the Generals of Northeast Portland at Roosevelt High School in North Portland.

The result left Roosevelt, Grant and Jefferson tied for first in the PIL, all with 6-1 records. 

One of the Generals’ best scoring opportunities came when they reached the Roughriders’ 3-yard line in the third quarter. A bad snap on a field goal try ended that threat. Two later drives by the Generals (6-3, 6-1) reached at least the Roughriders’ 30 but came up empty, including one stopped by a lost fumble in the red zone with 1:33 left. 

Dexter Foster was crucial to the Roughriders’ running game, including ripping off a 50-yard gain that allowed them to run out the clock. 

Wells 58, Franklin 28

The host Guardians secured the Portland Interscholastic League’s final automatic OSAA Class 6A playoff berth by defeating the visiting Lightning at Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School in Southwest Portland.

Will Reid passed for three touchdowns for the Lightning (4-4, 3-4) of Southeast Portland, connecting with Max Wallace, Cash Landau and Eli Oman. Diego Galvez had a touchdown on the ground for the Lightning.

Griffin Scott returned an interception 60 yards for a touchdown for the Guardians (5-4, 4-3), leading to a 16-16 score and launching Wells on a 24-0 scoring run.

Wyatt Andler rushed for more than 120 yards and scored two touchdowns. Quarterback Parker Feld-Gore ran one yard for a touchdown and passed to Jackson Poole for a 25-yard touchdown that led to a 38-22 halftime lead for the Guardians. 

Beckett Mersereau, Sol Tendick and Marselis Griffiths had touchdown runs for the Guardians.

Jefferson 56, McDaniel 0

Kamari Ransom returned an interception for a touchdown, Lamar Stewart had four sacks and DJ Johnson had three to lead the Democrats’ defense in the Portland Interscholastic League win over the Mountain Lions (0-9, 0-7) at McDaniel High School in Northeast Portland.

Jeray Nelson also had an interception and rushed for two touchdowns for the Democrats (6-3, 6-1) of North Portland. D’Marieon Gates rushed for two scores and returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown, and Donovan Ferguson ran for a touchdown and scored four two-point conversions. 

Lincoln 36, Cleveland 8

Matthew Burks led the Cardinals’ defense in their victory over the host Warriors (2-7, 1-6 Portland Interscholastic League) at Cleveland High School in Southeast Portland.

Burks had four tackles for loss, one sack and 12 quarterback hurries/hits for the Cardinals of Southwest Portland (2-7, 2-5). 

Other than allowing a kickoff-return touchdown, the Cardinals were “dialed in and focused on finishing the season on a positive note,” coach Matt Caruso said. “The kids suffered a bunch of heartbreaking losses this season; it was nice to finish the year on a win that was a whole team effort.” 

Koosha Mirarabshahi and Emmett Togni benefited from a cohesive offensive line to post strong games on the ground for the Cardinals.

CLASS 5A

No. 1 Summit 35, Caldera 0

Charlie Ozolin caught two of Hogan Carmichael’s four touchdowns passes, and the Storm posted their second shutout in the past three games in the win over the host Wolfpack (3-6, 2-3 Intermountain Conference) in Southeast Bend.

The Storm (8-1, 5-0) of Northwest Bend secured the IMC championship outright with the win, their eighth in a row since an opening loss at Tualatin, the No. 7 team in the SBLive Class 6A media poll.

Carmichael (19 of 25, 240 yards) had four touchdown passes for the fourth time this season. Ethan Carlson and Paxon Kettering also had touchdown catches. Sam Stephens ran for a touchdown. 

No. 2 Wilsonville 42, No. 8 Putnam 14

Mark Wiepert returned a kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and Cooper Hiday caught two of Kallen Gutridge’s three touchdown passes to power the Wildcats (7-2, 5-0 Northwest Oregon Conference) to the win over the visiting Kingsmen of Milwaukie.

Gutridge completed 8 of 15 pass attempts. He also ran 38 yards for a score. 

Hiday, who entered Week 9 leading Class 5A with 14 touchdown catches, scored on second-quarter plays covering 58 and 62 yards. 

The Kingsmen (8-1, 4-1) trailed 28-0 before Jaxon Doyle’s touchdown run three minutes into the third quarter. Tyler Creswick caught a touchdown pass from Konnor Bickford in the dying moments for Putnam’s other score. 

No. 3 Bend 40, Mountain View 14 

Malakai Nutter rushed for three touchdowns, and the Lava Bears held the visiting Cougars (6-3, 3-2) scoreless after halftime of the Intermountain Conference game between Northeast Bend schools.

Connor Crum passed for touchdowns to Kaden Alayan and Greyson Harms to stake the Cougars to a 14-12 second-quarter lead. The Lava Bears reclaimed the lead on Blake Groshong’s touchdown catch and led 20-14 at halftime. 

The Cougars lost a fumble at their 27-yard line on their first snap after halftime, and the Lava Bears (8-1, 4-1) used that as a springboard to a 20-0 second-half advantage.

Nutter has rushed for at least one touchdown in all nine games this season and has 19 touchdown runs. 

No. 4 Thurston 44, Churchill 0

The host Colts of Springfield earned sole possession of the Midwestern League title with the win over the Lancers (3-6, 3-4) of west Eugene. 

Will Dau carried eight times for 111 yards and a touchdown for the Colts (7-2, 7-0). Darien Witham rushed for two touchdowns, and Vaun Halstead made six sole tackles.

The Colts shut out their opponent for the second week in a row and third time this season. 

Lebanon 41, No. 5 Silverton 20

Lebanon rolled up 514 yards of total offense in defeating the visiting Foxes.

Wyatt Wessel (18 carries, 205 yards) rushed for two touchdowns for Lebanon (4-4, 4-4 Mid-Willamette Conference). Hayden George scored once rushing and once receiving, and Andreus Smith ran for a score and threw for two on 5-of-6 passing.

The first of Jackson Pfeifer’s three touchdown runs pulled the Foxes (6-3, 6-2) into a 7-7 score before George scored on a 75-yard run to give Lebanon the lead for good. Pfeifer had 16 carries for 57 yards and the three touchdowns, giving him 18 on the ground this season (as well as six on defense and special teams).

The Foxes pulled within 27-20 in the fourth quarter before Wessel added two insurance touchdowns — runs of 22 and 73 yards — for Lebanon. 

“We were finally able to put a complete game together,” Lebanon coach Troy Walker said in a text message. “We were physical and executed at a high level.”

McKay 20, No. 6 West Albany 14

Jamahl Wilson’s two-yard touchdown run with 12 seconds left capped a 60-yard drive and sent the Royal Scots of Salem to the win over the Bulldogs (5-3, 5-3 Mid-Willamette Conference) in Albany. 

The Bulldogs made the score 14-14 on Marcus Allen’s second touchdown, a two-yard run with 4:50 left. West Albany forced a three-and-out on the Royal Scots’ next possession, but Justice Anthony made an interception to give the Royal Scots (3-6, 3-5) possession at their 40-yard line with 1:39 left. Eight plays later, Wilson ran for the go-ahead score.

Allen carried 17 times for 61 yards for the Bulldogs. Noah Reese, who entered Week 9 as Class 5A’s leading tackler, was in on 13.

McKay’s Kyrin Fuimaono passed for more than 200 yards with a touchdown and extended plays with his legs. 

Anthony and Lukes Dominguez each finished with close to 100 yards receiving. Wilson ran for more than 100 yards with two touchdowns.

Jose Santana, Raider Cendejas and Fuimaono recovered fumbles for the Royal Scots.

No. 9 South Albany 48, Corvallis 14 

Kaden Younger threw for a season-high three touchdowns on 5-of-8 passing and Anthony Vestal had a scoring catch and a touchdown on an interception return, leading the RedHawks (6-2, 6-2 Mid-Willamette Conference) to the home-field win over the Spartans (0-9, 0-8).

The RedHawks earned an automatic berth to the OSAA Class 5A playoffs.

Logan Johnson ran for two touchdowns for the RedHawks, whose other scoring catches came from Diah Kollaer and JR Vasquez. 

Trey Johnson scored both of the Spartans’ touchdowns, on passes from Axel Prechel and Jaxon Lengwin. 

No. 10 Dallas 79, Crescent Valley 71

The host Dragons (5-3, 5-3 Mid-Willamette Conference) held off the Raiders (1-8, 1-7) of Corvallis in a game that will squeeze its way into a handful of top-10 lists in the scoring section of Oregon high school record books.

Rocco McClave (31 of 41) passed for 654 yards and 10 touchdowns — the most in both categories in Oregon Class 5A and 6A football in at least the past five seasons — for the Raiders, who led 33-30 in the second quarter. 

Luey Campos caught five of McClave’s scoring passes, and Walker Still caught four. Campos’ five touchdown catches are a single-game high in Oregon Class 5A and 6A football this season and match the most in the past five seasons (Eagle Point’s Noah Page in 2018 and Roosevelt’s Jackson Flatner in the spring 2021 season).

Adrian Xibille returned a blocked field goal attempt 68 yards for a Dragons touchdown and a 44-33 lead heading to halftime. The Dragons increased their lead to 18, 51-33, with their first score of the third quarter. 

Zayvian Webster and Isaiah Mosley each ran for three touchdowns for the Dragons, who went ahead 79-55 before McClave’s final two touchdown passes.

Hood River Valley 41, Forest Grove 40

A 90-yard scoring connection between quarterback Davis Parr and Shaw Burns, followed by the point-after kick, lifted the Eagles (4-5, 4-2 Northwest Oregon Conference) over the host Vikings and secured an automatic OSAA Class 5A playoff berth.

Trailing 41-40, the Vikings (3-6, 3-3) drove to the Eagles’ 20-yard line but lost a fumble with 54 seconds left. The Vikings forced a punt and on their final snap threw a pass to the end zone that was dropped.

Parr passed for four touchdowns, two each to Burns (two rushing touchdowns) and MarKeith Harris.

The Vikings’ Kaden Hale passed for three touchdowns and amassed nearly 400 yards of total offense. Hunter Frohnert and James Oberhelman each had a touchdown catch, and Sam Blanton ran for a score.

Southridge 42, Centennial 6

Jack Klee passed for four touchdowns and Owen Ohtani was in on more than 10 tackles for the Skyhawks, who defeated the visiting Eagles (0-9, 0-7 Northwest Oregon Conference) of Gresham in Beaverton.

Klee connected on scoring throws with Errol Moreland (twice), Stone Flower and Alisjah Tucker.

Kaleb Bailey made an impact on defense all over the field for the Skyhawks (6-3, 4-3), who got a touchdown pass from Cade Mitchell to CJ Sloan. 

Hillsboro 28, Canby 14

The Spartans scored 21 points off three Cougars fumbles in the Northwest Oregon Conference win in Canby and locked up an automatic berth in the OSAA Class 5A playoffs.

Tyler Konold led the Cougars (5-4, 2-3) in receiving (48 yards) and rushing (209 yards). He ran for a touchdown and caught a scoring pass from Parker Ackerman, both in the final 2:07 of the first half, as the Cougars pulled into a 14-14 tie.

Jaden Echeverria, Skyler Salzman and Preston Echeverria ran for touchdowns for the Spartans (5-4, 3-3), and Nahum Chavez scored on a 47-yard touchdown pass from Ian Ingram.

Amalia Rahf, who plays on the Spartans’ girls soccer team, was 4 of 4 on extra-point kicks for Hillsboro, which went winless on the field last season. 

Springfield 30, Eagle Point 29

Julian Gomez made an interception to seal the Millers’ win after they went ahead late in the Midwestern League game against the host Eagles.

Dwayne Fotta’s 30-yard touchdown followed by Isaiah Naverette’s catch on the two-point conversion pass pushed the Millers (6-3, 5-2) to their 30-29 lead. Fotta earlier scored a 70-yard touchdown on a wide receiver screen.

Bryton Livingston passed for three touchdowns — two to Kaden Huff and one to Dawson Foulon — for the Eagles (6-3, 5-2), who took a 29-22 lead in the third quarter on Hugo Perezchica’s 2-yard run.

Livingston (15 of 30) passed for 273 yards. David Brown carried 17 times for 73 yards and led the Eagles with nine tackles. 

The Millers’ Connor Dye had a 78-yard touchdown run among his two scores. Jackson Babbitt made an interception on the first offensive snap. 

North Eugene 42, Willamette 27 

The Highlanders defeated the visiting Wolverines (3-6, 2-5 Midwestern League) of Eugene to lock up an automatic berth in the OSAA Class 5A playoffs. 

Devon Anderson ran for a season-high five touchdowns and passed to Hyrum Weiss for another score for the Highlanders (5-4, 4-3). 

The Wolverines’ Ryan Prescott passed for two touchdowns and scored one on the ground. Brandon Thornton exceeded 100 receiving yards and had a scoring catch for the Wolverines, and Kenna Kunihisa had four catches for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Crater 55, South Eugene 6

Seven players scored touchdowns for the Comets (3-6, 2-5 Midwestern League) in the win over the Axe (1-8, 0-7) in Central Point. 

Ridgeview 19, Redmond 13 (2OT) 

Justin Reason made a fourth-down sack in the second overtime after Aidan Brenneman’s touchdown run pushed the Ravens on top, preserving the win over the visiting Panthers (2-7, 0-5) in the Intermountain Conference game between Redmond schools. 

The Panthers had the first possession in the first overtime, and the Ravens (2-7, 1-4) answered their score with one of their own.

CLASS 4A

No. 1 Mazama 44, No. 7 Marshfield 15

Quarterback Tyson Van Gastel rushed for three touchdowns and Trevor Anderson (16 carries, 169 yards) ran for two, both made impact plays on defense, and the Vikings of Klamath Falls wrapped up sole ownership of the Big Sky Conference title by defeating the visiting Pirates (6-3, 4-2) of Coos Bay.

Brody Hubble made seven tackles, one for loss. Van Gastel made 5½ tackles and recovered a fumble. Anderson forced a fumble, and Tyler Aguiar had an interception for the Vikings (9-0, 6-0). 

No. 2 Estacada 58, No. 10 Woodburn 12

The Rangers (8-1, 5-0) wrapped up the Tri-Valley Conference championship with the win over the Bulldogs (7-2, 4-1) in Woodburn. 

Estacada rolled up more than 400 yards rushing and held the Bulldogs scoreless after halftime. Cory James and James Durand each surpassed 100 yards rushing and ran for two touchdowns. 

No. 3 Marist Catholic 21, Junction City 7

The Spartans scored on their first two drives after halftime to break away from a 7-7 score and defeat the visiting Tigers (6-3, 4-2), securing sole possession of the Oregon West Conference championship.

Marist Catholic’s Kaden Starr had 18 tackles and Aiden Hazen had 16.

Jackson Gibeau passed to Peyton Tyner for a touchdown for the Spartans (8-1, 6-0) of Eugene. Parker Nelson had 12 carries for 66 yards and two touchdowns. 

No. 4 Henley 55, North Bend 24

Luke Bennett returned a punt for a touchdown and had a scoring catch, and the Hornets of Klamath Falls pulled away in the second half to defeat the visiting Bulldogs (4-5, 3-3 Big Sky Conference).

The victory locked up an automatic berth in the OSAA Class 4A playoffs for the Hornets (8-1, 5-1), whose only loss was last week to No. 1 Mazama.

Jason Kern and Logan Whitlock ran for scores for the Hornets, who got one touchdown rushing and one passing from Shaw Stork. 

Cole Hansen and Luke Wheeling ran for touchdowns and Clayton Wharton kicked a field goal to stake the Bulldogs to a 17-7 first-quarter lead. David Roberts made a touchdown catch for the Bulldogs, who trailed 21-17 at halftime. 

No. 6 Pendleton 49, Baker 7

Payton Lambert ran for four touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass, and the Buckaroos rolled over the host Bulldogs (5-4, 2-3 Greater Oregon League) to earn an automatic OSAA Class 4A playoff berth. 

Lambert carried nine times and picked up 138 yards for the Buckaroos (7-2, 4-1).

Dylan Abrahamson was in on seven tackles and Aaron Barkley made an interception to lead the Buckaroos’ defense. 

Paul Hobson passed to Malaki Myer in the second quarter for a touchdown for the Bulldogs, who were missing multiple starters with injuries. 

No. 8 Tillamook 56, Milwaukie 6

Judah Werner blocked a punt and ran for two touchdowns for the Cheesemakers, who earned sole possession of the Cowapa League championship with the home-field win over the Mustangs (5-4, 2-3).

Seth Wehinger ran for two scores and Tyler Moncrief ran for a touchdown and returned an interception for another for the Cheesemakers (7-2, 5-0). 

No. 9 Scappoose 34, Astoria 8

Cayden Baker blocked a punt that Brandon Neilson returned for a touchdown, Joey Botsford had two sacks, and Anthony Comer, Johnny Clothier and Quinton Olson had interceptions as Scappoose defeated the visiting Fishermen (0-9, 0-5 Cowapa League). 

Scappoose (7-2, 4-1) held an opponent to fewer than 10 points for the sixth time this season. 

Trey Dieringer, Max Nowlin and D’Angelo Macedo Becker ran for touchdowns, and Nowlin passed to Colby Campbell for another Scappoose score. 

Fishermen coach Howard Rub, in a text message, said, “Proud of the resiliency of the group. Not a lot of things bounced our way, but the kids kept battling.”

Stayton 21, No. 10 Cascade 18

The host Eagles stopped the Cougars (4-5, 3-3) on a play from the 1-yard line as time ran out to preserve the Oregon West Conference victory and collect an automatic berth to the OSAA Class 4A playoffs.

The Cougars of Turner led 12-0 at halftime. The Eagles (7-2, 5-1) rallied in part on a defense that recovered five fumbles and got an interception by Bishop Szmyd.

Cody Leming passed for three touchdowns, including the go-ahead 38-yard score to Jace Aguilar with 4:26 left. Brock Hubert and Travis King caught Leming’s other scoring passes. 

Seaside 32, St. Helens 16

Jake White rushed for four touchdowns to lead the Seagulls (5-4, 3-2 Cowapa League) over the host Lions.

After the Lions (3-6, 1-4) trailed 21-8 at halftime, Skyler Bjornstrom broke off a 65-yard touchdown to make it a one-possession game. The Seagulls answered with a score and kept the Lions at bay the rest of the way. 

Senior Jayden Dziezyk stood out on the line for the Lions’ defense, which held the Seagulls to 11 points after halftime.

Gladstone 27, La Salle Prep 7

Brayde Owen ran 80 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown and two plays later returned an interception 65 yards for another score, and the Gladiators (5-3, 3-2 Tri-Valley Conference) clinched an OSAA Class 4A playoff spot with the home-field win over the Falcons (2-7, 2-3) of Milwaukie.

The Gladiators got strong contributions from Ethan Finnigan, Hayden Smith, Marlon Diaz and Phillip Benedict. 

Four times the Falcons reached inside the Gladiators’ 15-yard line and came away with no points.

Molalla 28, Parkrose 7

Mason King passed for three touchdowns for Molalla, which pulled away from a 12-0 halftime lead for the win over the host Broncos (0-9, 0-5) of Northeast Portland, who got more than 100 yards rushing and a touchdown from Josh Morris.

Matt Mueller ran for a score and had a touchdown catch, and Ben Olsen was the leading tackler for Molalla.

Philomath 33, Sweet Home 20

Ty Olson and Kaden Muir scored two touchdowns apiece and David Griffith had one, powering the Warriors (3-6, 2-4 Oregon West Conference) to the win over the host Huskies (3-6, 1-5). 

Ashland 39, Klamath Union 36

The Pelicans got two rushing touchdowns from Liam Garrett in the loss to the host Grizzlies (2-7, 1-5 Big Sky Conference). 

Tony Ortiz, who eclipsed 1,000 yards receiving this season, was a factor in the passing game for the Pelicans (2-7, 1-5), who got an interception from Kalvin Hayes.

Crook County 28, Madras 0

Eddie Freauff had a 65-yard touchdown run and Palmer Smith scored on a 50-yard rush, pacing the Cowboys (5-4, 3-2 Greater Oregon League) to the victory over the visiting White Buffaloes (4-5, 1-4) in Prineville. 

Hidden Valley 28, Cottage Grove 26 (OT)

AJ Elzy caught the winning two-point conversion as the Mustangs (3-6) of Grants Pass defeated the visiting Lions (0-9) in overtime. 

Daniel Iwamizu rushed for two touchdowns for the Mustangs, and John Kossow made two touchdown catches — both on fourth down.

CLASS 3A

Banks 51, North Marion 6

Ashton Crossen ran for three touchdowns and Christian Lyda passed for two, sparking Banks (9-0, 6-0) to the win over the host Huskies (3-6, 2-4) of Aurora and clinching sole possession of the Coastal Range League title. 

Rainier 18, Valley Catholic 0

Zach Wesselman had an interception and the Valiants recovered two fumbles as part of a defense that held the Columbians (5-5, 3-3 Coastal Range League) to one touchdown in the game at Beaverton.

Noah Holub had five tackles for loss, Danny Paz had three tackles for loss and Justin Lulay made seven tackles.

The Valiants (1-7, 1-5) made five fourth-down stops and held at their 1-yard line before halftime.

A fumbled snap led to an end-zone recovery for the Columbians, who got four points on two safeties.

WIAA

Kennewick 34, Hermiston 12

The Bulldogs struck first but went scoreless in the second half of the Mid-Columbia Conference loss to the Lions (7-2, 6-2) in Kennewick, Wash. 

Isaac Corey connected with Dale Krebs on a three-yard touchdown pass with 7:15 left in the first quarter to stake the Bulldogs (3-6, 3-5) to a 6-0 lead, and those two connected again 14 seconds before halftime to make the score 17-12. 

Corey was 20 of 34 for 191 yards.
