Congratulations to Roseburg’s Mykah Mendoza for being voted SBLive’s WaFd Bank Oregon Boys Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 2-8.
Mendoza, a junior on the Roseburg team, averaged 20.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.6 steals per game over a five-game stretch, including a 29-point, 11-rebound performance in a 67-63 overtime win over Mountain View in the championship game of the Les Schwab Oregon Holiday Hoopfest, where he scored the tying basket at the end of regulation and added four more points in overtime.
Mendoza received 79.57% of the vote, beating out Joseph Fusco, a sophomore on the Oakland team, who finished second with 14.59%. Josiah Lake, a senior on the Tualatin team, was third with 2.26% and Kaden Groenig, a junior on the Southridge team, was fourth with 1.48%. There were more than 7,000 votes tallied this week.
