The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 100 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

100

In the past 10 seasons (discounting spring 2021), two teams among the Class 4A, 5A and 6A ranks have allowed 100 points in a season: 2016 Mazama and 2022 Sheldon.

Mazama of Klamath Falls won the Class 4A Skyline Conference title in 2016, posting shutouts in four of its five conference games. Although that defensive performance seemed to foreshadow a promising run in the OSAA playoffs, the Vikings’ season ended in a 40-21 loss to Cascade in the first round.

Sheldon of Eugene had five shutouts (four in league games) in 2022 on the way to winning its conference title. The Irish allowed more than 14 points twice — in a 35-31 Week 2 win at West Linn and in the OSAA Class 6A championship game, a 23-14 loss to … West Linn.

Honorable mention goes to Thurston of Springfield, which allowed 101 points in 2021, including 26 in a six-point loss to Silverton in the Class 5A championship game.

Four 4A, 5A or 6A teams have allowed fewer than 100 points in the past 10 seasons:

2013 Silverton: 78 (advanced to Class 5A semifinal)

2015 Lincoln: 89 (advanced to Class 6A quarterfinal)

2019 La Grande: 87 (won the Class 4A championship)

2022 Bend: 85 (advanced to Class 5A semifinal)
