In 2022, three Class 6A players were reported to have scored on defense or special teams on 99-yard returns:
- Central Catholic’s Timmy Mitchell Jr. returned a kickoff at Bellevue (Wash.) in Week 1.
- Clackamas’ Kaden Bartness returned a fumble against Sherwood in Week 2.
- Jefferson’s Sanborne Melson ran back an interception against Franklin in a Week 7 Portland Interscholastic League game.
Each of the three teams that had a 99-yard non-offensive touchdown won the game in which the long return was made.
