The last tie in the football championship game of the OSAA’s largest classification was in 1990, between Tigard and Roseburg, 14-14, at Civic Stadium in Southwest Portland.
Tigard tied the score with four seconds left, and at the time, OSAA rules did not allow for overtime in championship football games.
The OSAA changed the rule about no overtime in state finals in 1998, and the change came into play that fall, when Ashland won the title, 29-23, in overtime. Ashland’s opponent in that game? Roseburg.
