La Grande allowed 87 points in 2019 en route to winning the OSAA Class 4A championship.
Based on game scores, the Tigers’ defense got better as the playoff field narrowed. After allowing 16 points in the first round, the Tigers posted shutouts in their final three playoff games, culminating in a 21-0 win over Banks.
The title was the Tigers’ second, the other coming in 1974, when La Grande played in the classification for the state’s largest schools.
La Grande’s shutout in the championship game is the most recent in an 11-player OSAA final.
