84 days until Oregon high school football season: One number for each day as we count down to kickoff 2023

SBLive Oregon gives you one significant number per day as we mark the days until high school football returns.

The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 84 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

84

1984 was the last time a team from east of the Cascade Range won the big-school OSAA championship. In that year, Crook County completed a 14-0 season with a 28-6 win at Civic Stadium in Portland over Lakeridge of Lake Oswego.

Since the advent of OSAA’s six-classification system, Class 6A hasn’t always had a representative from east of the Cascades. Even before the start of the six-classification system, the closest a team has come — geographically — to supplanting the Cowboys of Prineville has been Ashland.

The Grizzlies won the Class 4A title three times since 1984 — 1989, 1991 and 1998.
