The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 72 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

72

Catches in 2022 by Lakeridge’s Baylor Corbin and West Linn’s Mark Hamper, who tied for the lead among Class 6A and 5A teams.

Corbin totaled 814 yards and had nine scoring catches in 2022, leading the Pacers of Lake Oswego in both categories. The senior set career highs of 12 catches, 235 yards and three touchdowns in a Week 1 win over McNary of Keizer.

Hamper gained a 6A-or-5A-best 1,464 yards and had 19 touchdown catches last season. His most prolific game came in Week 2, when he caught nine passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns — all season highs — in the Lions’ 35-31 loss to Sheldon. Hamper had four catches for 54 yards in the teams’ rematch, a 23-14 Lions win in the OSAA Class 6A final

The leading receivers among Class 5A players in 2022 were McKay’s Justice Anthony and Corvallis’ Truman Brasfield, with 58 catches each. Wilsonville’s Cooper Hiday matched Hamper’s 19 touchdown catches to lead Class 5A in that category.
