The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 70 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

70

Seventy points were the most scored in one game in 2022 by a Portland Interscholastic League team. Grant reached that figure in Week 8 in a 70-6 victory at McDaniel.

Those 70 points were the last points the Generals scored last season. They lost 3-0 the next week at Roosevelt of North Portland, and they lost 59-0 at West Linn in the first round of the OSAA Class 6A playoffs.

A new wrinkle comes this season to the series between Northeast Portland’s Grant and McDaniel, which are about three miles apart. McDaniel’s first-year coach, Russell Millage, is a former Grant offensive assistant

Grant has defeated McDaniel (and Madison when that was the school’s name) in their past five meetings and six of their past eight. In their wins, the Generals haven’t allowed more than six points. Madison’s wins were by a combined five points (17-14 in 2015 and 22-20 in 2016).
