The Oregon high school football season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Aug. 31 — 57 days from today. As we count down the days until kickoff, SBLive Oregon will give you one significant number per day.

57

Rushing touchdowns by Jesuit in 2019 — the most in a season by any Class 6A or 5A team in the past five seasons.

The Crusaders of Southwest Portland had two players exceed 20 rushing touchdowns that season: Kade Wisher (32) and Ted Atkinson (21).

The closest team to Jesuit in 2019 was Class 5A Thurston, which finished with 56 touchdowns and was led by Wesley Kommer’s 34.

In the competition for most rushing touchdowns, the Crusaders took the lead for good in the second week of the OSAA playoffs. Jesuit, with Wisher rushing for five and Atkinson two, totaled eight rushing touchdowns against Liberty. That same week, Thurston — with Kommer running for five and Cade Crist rushing for two — piled up seven scores on the ground against Wilsonville.

The next week, Jesuit and Thurston each rushed for five scores, with Wisher and Kommer accounting for four apiece. Each school ended its season with two rushing touchdowns in its final game.
