Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Oregon High School Team of the Week for March 4-10 as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Astoria girls basketball

The Fishermen came close to winning the Class 4A state championship, as they were tipped 41-38 by Henley in the title contest at Forest Grove High School. Astoria, which bested Cascade 45-36 in the semifinals, ended its season 23-5.

Baker boys basketball

The Bulldogs ended the season in a flurry, topping two-time defending state champion Cascade 74-54 in a Class 4A state tournament semifinal game and then besting Junction City 75-58 in the state title contest at Forest Grove High School. Junior guard Jaxon Logsdon tallied a game-high 22 points in the title game for Baker, which finished its season 28-1.

Benson girls basketball

The Techsters notched a 51-47 victory against defending state champion Clackamas in a Class 6A state tournament semifinal game before falling 48-38 to South Medford in the state title contest at the University of Portland’s Chiles Center. Benson, which ended its season 23-5, got 19 points and 15 rebounds from Mahogany Chandler-Roberts in the semifinal victory. Eboni Clay led the team with 16 points in the title tilt.

Central Catholic boys basketball

The Rams won their first state title since 1994 by notching an 85-76 victory against Roosevelt in the Class 6A state tournament championship game at the University of Portland’s Chiles Center. Junior Isaac Carr tallied a game-high 26 points for Central Catholic, which finished the season 27-3.

Central Catholic girls skiing

The Rams raced to victory in the giant slalom event at the state meet at Mt. Hood Meadows. Central Catholic triumphed with a time of 3 minutes, 31.96 seconds, besting second-place Lakeridge, which had a mark of 3:39.89. Hannah Currier led the way for the Rams, as she claimed the individual state crown in the giant slalom with her time of 1:05.77.

Crater girls basketball

The Comets came as close as they could to winning the Class 5A state championship, as they were tipped 61-60 in overtime by Silverton in the state title contest at Linfield University in McMinnville. Crater, which beat South Albany 54-47 in the semifinals, got 22 points from Sage Winslow in the championship game. The Comets finished their season 26-2.

Henley girls basketball

The second-seeded Hornets claimed the Class 4A state championship, edging top-seeded Astoria 41-38 in the title contest at Forest Grove High School. Senior Annie Campos scored 14 points in the title game, and Anna Harper had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds for Henley, which finished its season 24-2.

Junction City boys basketball

The Tigers powered their way to the championship game of the Class 4A state tournament, where they fell 75-58 to Baker at Forest Grove High School. Junction City, which ended its season 23-4, got a team-high 18 points from Keivon Riley.

Lake Oswego boys skiing

The Lakers claimed the giant slalom team championship at the state meet at Mt. Hood Meadows. Lake Oswego had a time of 3 minutes, 26.92 seconds, edging second-place Lincoln, which had a mark of 3:28.59. Will Herion led the way for the Lakers, as he was the individual state champion in the giant slalom with his mark of 1:06.58.

Lincoln boys skiing

The Cardinals won the combined state championship at the meet at Mt. Hood Meadows. Lincoln had a time of 7 minutes, 43.87 seconds. Sunset was second at 8:05.32. Lincoln’s Lucas Garcia was the combined individual state champion with a time of 2:25.94. The Cardinals also claimed the team state championship for the slalom event.

Roosevelt boys basketball

The Roughriders came one win from claiming their first state championship since 1949, as they fell 85-76 to Central Catholic in the Class 6A state tournament championship game at the University of Portland’s Chiles Center. Roosevelt, which ended its season 26-3, got 23 points from senior guard Terrence Hill Jr. in the championship contest.

Silverton girls basketball

The Foxes won the Class 5A state championship in thrilling fashion, edging Crater 61-60 in overtime in the title tilt at Linfield University in McMinnville. Olivia Boyd sank the winning free throw with 0.3 second left in the extra session. Silverton, which finished its season 24-4, got 22 points and 12 rebounds from Kyleigh Brown.

South Medford girls basketball

The Panthers, who were the state tournament runners-up a year ago, weren’t going to be denied this year, as they bested Benson 48-38 in the Class 6A title game at the University of Portland’s Chiles Center. South Medford, which finished its season 26-3, got 15 points from both Sara Schmerbach and Taylor Young in the championship contest.

Summit boys basketball

The Storm won the Class 5A state championship at Linfield University in McMinnville, edging Wilsonville 52-50 in a rematch of the 2023 title tilt. Senior Mac Bledsoe scored the winning basket as time expired. Senior Pearson Carmichael had 27 points and seven rebounds for the Storm, which finished the season 24-4.

Summit girls skiing

The Storm turned in a strong performance at the state meet at Mt. Hood Meadows, claiming team titles in the slalom and combined events. In the slalom, Summit had a team time of 4 minutes, 38.76 seconds. Hood River Valley was second at 4:39.56. In the combined event, the Storm had a mark of 8:20.87, with Hood River Valley second at 8:22.64.

Wilsonville boys basketball

The Wildcats came oh-so-close to repeating as Class 5A state champions, as they were tipped 52-50 by Summit in the title tilt at Linfield University in McMinnville. Wilsonville, which finished the season 25-4, was led by senior Kyle Counts’ 20 points in the championship game.
