Here are the candidates for the WaFd Bank Oregon Baseball Athlete of the Week as nominated by coaches, fans and readers.

Brayden Buck, Tualatin

The junior outfielder got off to a fast start to the season, going 4 for 7 with two home runs and five RBIs, helping the Timberwolves open the season with wins over Crescent Valley and Willamette.

Ty Burnham, Sheldon 

The sophomore belted two home runs, scored three times and drove in four for the Irish in a 19-15 loss to Churchill in a nonleague game at Sheldon High School.

Quintin Esmay, Canby

The senior pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits, striking out six and walking none, in addition to hitting a walk-off RBI double in the ninth inning in the Cougars’ 1-0 win over Dallas in a nonleague contest.

Robbie Harden, Marist Catholic

The junior went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs in the Spartans’ 11-1 victory against Pleasant Hill in a nonleague game at Marist Catholic.

Ty Hellenthal, Umpqua Valley Christian

The junior stepped up on the mound and at the plate for the Monarchs in a 3-1 nonleague win at Regis. He picked up the pitching win, giving up one run on one hit and striking out 10 in five innings. At the plate, he went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs.

Wyatt Hesselman, Banks

The senior had a huge day in a 5-0 victory at Astoria in a nonleague game. He picked up the pitching win, throwing five and two-thirds shutout innings, giving up two hits, striking out seven and walking none. He went 2 for 3 with a solo home run.

Luke Hornback, Oregon City

The senior threw five shutout innings, allowing two hits, striking out 10 and walking one, in leading the Pioneers to a 6-1 win over Cleveland in a nonleague game at Oregon City High School.

Wyatt Jenkins, Lebanon 

In three games for the Warriors, the sophomore catcher went 4 for 7 with a home run, two doubles, two walks, one hit by pitch and seven RBIs.

Andrew Jensen-Norman, Siuslaw 

The senior right-hander threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out seven and walking six, in an 11-0 win over Sutherlin in a nonleague game at Siuslaw High School.

Kenji Johnson, Parkrose

The senior threw a five-inning shutout, allowing one hit, striking out two and walking two, in the Broncos’ 15-0 win over Neah-Kah-Nie in a nonleague contest. He scored two runs.

Kaden King, Reynolds

The freshman went 2 for 3 with two runs and a walk-off RBI for the Raiders in their 9-8 win over South Albany in a nonleague game at Reynolds Middle School.

Jack Knips, Cascade Christian

The senior went 3 for 3 with a double, a triple and three RBIs in leading the Challengers to a season-opening 10-1 win over Phoenix in a nonleague contest.

Jake Kotansky, Lakeridge

The junior catcher tripled twice and drove in four runs to help the Pacers post a 12-2 win over Lincoln in a nonleague game at Lakeridge High School. 

Quinton Marshall, Elmira

The senior left-hander threw a complete-game shutout, allowing two hits, striking out 12 and walking none, in the Falcons’ 12-0 five-inning win at Dayton in a nonleague contest.

JJ McCormick, Taft

The junior went 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs in helping lead the Tigers to a 14-4 win over Neah-Kah-Nie in a nonleague game at Taft High School.

Braeden McIntyre, Scio

The senior went 3 for 3 with a double, two stolen bases, two walks, four runs and four RBIs in the Loggers’ 23-4 home win over Salem Academy in a nonleague clash.

Wilson Medina, Sherwood

The junior outfielder went 5 for 7 with three doubles, five stolen bases, two runs and two RBIs during the week for the Bowmen.

Boyd Messman, Sprague

The junior catcher blasted three home runs and drove in five for the Olympians in a 17-1 win over Grant in a nonleague game at Sprague High School.

Jared Penaloza, Madras

The sophomore, batting in the leadoff spot, went 3 for 3 with a double, a stolen base, two walks, two runs and an RBI in sparking the White Buffaloes to a 12-8 win at Sweet Home.

Kayle Pisano, Clackamas

The senior first baseman/pitcher and University of Oregon commit had a big first week for the Cavaliers. In wins over Franklin and Battle Ground, Wash., he went 4 for 5 with two doubles, three walks, five runs and four RBI, including a walk-off RBI single in a 4-3 win over Battle Ground. He pitched in that game, giving up no runs on one infield hit, striking out 13 and walking one in six innings.

Evan Rhoden, South Medford

The junior right-hander threw five shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out seven, in the Panthers’ 5-0 win over Glencoe in a nonleague game at Harry & David Field.

Jeremiah Robbins, North Medford

The senior catcher smacked a go-ahead two-run home run for the Black Tornado in a 6-5 win over McNary in a nonleague game at McNary High School.

Kevin Semm, South Salem

The junior stepped up for the Saxons at the plate and on the mound in a season-opening 6-5 nonleague win at Grants Pass. He hit a double, drew a walk, scored a run and drove in a run. He took over pitching duties with the score 6-5 and pitched three innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out two, to get the save.

Colton Siewell, Bandon/Pacific

The senior right-hander threw four perfect innings, striking out all 12 batters he faced, in the Tigers’ 23-0 home win over St. Mary’s of Medford in a nonleague contest.

Bryant Starr, Lebanon

In two starts for the Warriors, the senior pitcher went 1-1, allowing one earned run on two hits, striking out 17, walking one and hitting two batters with pitches.

Austin Vaughn, Crook County

The senior went 4 for 5 with a double, a triple, a stolen base, three runs and three RBIs in the Cowboys’ season-opening 16-1 win at Culver in a nonleague tilt.
