Congratulations to Mars boys lacrosse midfielder Austin Cote for being voted SBLive’s Pennsylvania High School Athlete of the Week for May 23-29!
In the WPIAL Class 2A final, Cote scored five goals and had four assists against Quaker Valley in a 19-3 win to help the Planets secure their sixth straight WPIAL title.
Harmon received 51.13% of the vote, beating out North Penn's Julia Shearer who finished second with 22.06%. Hershey's Justin Rogers finished third with 20.55% and Spring Grove's Laila Campbell finished fourth with 3.13%.

Laila Campbell, Spring Grove track and field
The sophomore took home two gold medals in the PIAA Class 3A track and field state championships. She started by breaking the meet record in the 100m with a time of 11.55. And then she backed that up with a time of 23.56 in the 200m.

In the WPIAL Class 2A final, Cote scored five goals and had four assists against Quaker Valley in a 19-3 win to help the Planets secure their sixth straight WPIAL title.
Luke Deschenes, Emmaus baseball
On the mound against Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Deschenes struck out 10 hitters in 5.2 innings of shutout baseball, while allowing just four hits. He also collected two hits, including a double, and an RBI in the 5-0 win. And then he came back on Sunday and threw a complete game against Nazareth in the District 11 Class 6A semifinals. He allowed just one run on four hits and struck out five in the 3-1 win.
Anna Kaplan, Twin Valley girls lacrosse
The Berks player of the year scored the game-winning goal in the District 3 Class 2A district final on Wednesday, finding the back of the net with less than 20 seconds left in the game for a 14-13 win over York Catholic. It was the fourth goal of the game for Kaplan, who also had five assists.
David Lindsay, Central Mountain boys tennis
The sophomore won the Class 3A state championship over the weekend, losing just one set in his four matches. He lost 10 games total in the first three matches and won his semifinal 6-3, 6-0. In the state championship match, he bounced back after losing the first set and took home the title with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Payton List, Beaver softball
In the WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinals, the senior tossed a five-inning no-hitter in a 10-win over Freeport. And then in the semifinals, List did her thing in the circle and at the plate. She went the distance from the circle and struck out eight, allowing just one unearned run on four hits. Then at the dish, she smacked two home runs in the 6-1 win over Montour.
Gary Martin, Archbishop Wood
A week after running a mile in 3:57:98, the senior was back to making news this week. In the Class 3A state championships, he broke the PIAA state meet record in the mile with a time of 4:01:56. He also took home the gold in the 800-meter event.
Will McCausland, Souderton baseball
In the second round of the District 1 Class 6A playoffs, McCausland went 7.1 innings of shutout baseball and struck out 14 hitters as Souderton won 1-0 over Council Rock North in eight innings. He gave up just four hits and walked one.
Ainsley McClure, Pennsbury softball
In the District 1 Class 6A quarterfinals on Friday, McClure was perfect in an 8-0 win over Garnet Valley. She struck out 17 of the 21 hitters she faced to improve to 19-1 on the season. This came after a 5-1 win over Coatesville on Wednesday where she struck out 14 hitters.
Ryan Reich, Selinsgrove baseball
In the first round of the Class 5A playoffs, Reich threw a shutout against Wyoming Valley West as Selinsgrove won 6-0. The Seton Hall commit went the distance and allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out 13. He also had a double and a run scored in Selinsgrove’s 14-7 win over Pittston on Wednesday.
Justin Rogers, Hershey track and field
Rogers repeated as the PIAA Class 3A pole vault state champion in record breaking fashion. The University of Virginia commit cleared 17 feet, 4.25 inches to take home the top honor in the event.
Nicolas Scheller, North Catholic boys tennis
The senior cruised to the PIAA Class 2A state tennis title, dropping only five games in the four matches played, and never losing more than two games in a single set. He won four of his eight sets by a score of 6-0, including both sets in the state title match.
Julia Shearer, North Penn softball
She struck out 16 hitters in a no-hitter against Avon Grove in the second round of the PIAA District 1 Class 6A playoffs on Wednesday. The gem from the University of Maryland commit helped North Penn win the game 3-0. She backed that up with a one-hitter against Hatboro, striking out 12 on Friday.
Jonah Snowberger, Central baseball
Against Bald Eagle Area on Tuesday, the senior tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out eight in a 10-0 win in the District 5/6 Class 3A semifinals. And then against Penns Valley Area on Saturday, he had two hits and drove in four runs in a 7-1 win.
Jake Walker, West Mifflin baseball
In the WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinals on Monday, Walker drove in three of West Mifflin’s four runs in a 4-1 win over Blackhawk. The senior had three hits, including a double and a homer in the win. Against Knoch in the semifinals on Tuesday, he had a double, RBI and a run scored. He also threw two shutout innings against Knoch and struck out five, including three with the bases loaded and nobody out in the sixth.
