Here are the candidates for SBLive’s Pennsylvania high school athlete of the week for June 6-12. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Voting will conclude Sunday at 11:59 p.m. If you would like to make a nomination in a future week, email ryan@scorebooklive.com.

Braden Brazenski, DuBois Central Catholic baseball 

In two playoff wins this week, the junior had four hits in seven at-bats, including three doubles, and he also drew a pair of walks. He drove in five runs and scored four times. 

Austin Cote, Mars boys lacrosse

In the Class 2A state tournament, Cote scored seven goals to help lead Mars to the state title. In a 16-8 win over Penncrest in the semifinals, he found the net four times. And then he added three more goals in the state championship game in a 9-6 win over Marple Newton.

Addy Frye, Neshannock softball

In the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, the freshman tossed a four-hitter and struck out 10 against Sacred Heart in a 6-0 win. In the quarterfinals against Johnsonburg, she allowed just three hits in the five-inning game and struck out five. She contributed at the plate as well, with a double and three RBI.

Kaya Hannon, Tunkhannock softball

In the first round of the Class 4A playoffs, she tossed a one-hitter against Shamokin Area in a 2-1 win. She gave up an unearned run and struck out seven. She fired another one-hitter in the quarterfinals in a 10-0 win over Archbishop Wood. In that game, the junior struck out six in five innings.

Emma Hipps, Clearfield softball

The senior threw a one-hitter in the Class 4A quarterfinals against Hamburg. In the 4-0 win, Hipps struck out 15 and didn’t walk a single batter. At the plate, she hit a homer and drove in a pair of runs. In the first round, she struck out 13 while allowing two runs on five hits against Franklin in a 4-3 win.

Bryson Huwar, Clarion-Limestone baseball

In the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, Huwar had three hits and drove in a pair of runs in the eighth inning as the Lions defeated Union 8-5 in eight innings. He also pitched five innings and struck out 10 before an injury forced him off the mound. In a loss to Southern Fulton in the quarterfinal, he had two hits and a run scored.

Paxton Kling, Central baseball

In the first round of the PIAA Class 3A playoffs, Kling had a double, a homer and three RBI in a 13-3 win over Mohawk Area. Then in the quarterfinals, he had a hit and two walks and scored twice in a 7-1 win over Fairview.

Jonas McGrath, Tri-Valley baseball

In a 12-0 win over Bishop McCort in the Class 1A quarterfinals, McGrath drove in three runs as he had three hits, including a double and a homer. The senior scored three times in the victory. He also had a double and an RBI in the first round playoff win over Greenwood.

Judah Miller, Halifax baseball

In a 3-1 win over MMI Prep on Thursday in the Class 1A quarterfinals, the junior had a double and a homer and drove in two of Halifax’s three runs. On the mound, he went six innings for the win and allowed one run on four hits while striking out 13. In a 3-0 win over Benton in the first round, he had a double and a triple and drove in a run.

Mikaila Obenrader, Saegertown softball

In the Class 1A quarterfinals, Obenrader threw an eight-inning no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Union. She struck out 12 in the game.

Tori Para, Pittston softball

In a 13-0 win over South Western in the Class 5A first round, Para had a homer and drove in three runs. She finished with two hits and scored a run. In the quarterfinals, she had a double and two RBI in a 3-2 win over Lampeter-Strasburg

Faith Persing, Montgomery softball

In the quarterfinals of the Class 1A playoffs, Persing struck out 17 hitters in a six-inning complete game. She allowed just two hits against Faith Christian in the 13-1 win and only one of her outs came on something other than a strikeout. This came after she went the distance in a game that went nine innings in the first round. In that one, she tossed a shutout in a 1-0 win over Tri-Valley. She allowed just four hits and struck out nine.

Julia Shearer, North Penn softball

In a 5-0 first round win over Whitehall, she went the distance and allowed just two hits while striking out 13. Then in the quarterfinals, she had 11 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in six innings of a 10-0 win over Williamsport. In that game, she was also big on offense, hitting a double and a homer and driving in three runs.

Emma Talego, Archbishop Carroll girls lacrosse

With Carroll trailimng 8-7 in the Class 2A state championship game, Talego tallied the tying and game-winning goals as the Patriots picked up a 10-8 win for their third straight state title. Talego also added two goals in the state semifinals.

Trayton Younker, Southern Fulton baseball

The junior hit a double and a home run and drove in four runs in a Class 1A quarterfinal win over Clarion-Limestone. In the first round of the playoffs, he also had a hit and drove in two runs.
