From Ashley Amato of Palisades to Tayten Yoder of Bald Eagle Area, there were several big-time high school baseball and softball performances across the state of Pennsylvania in games played June 4-11

There were several big-time high school baseball and softball performances across the state of Pennsylvania as the PIAA playoffs began this past week. Here are some of those performances.

Ashley Amato, Palisades softball

In the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, the senior went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a homer and drove in three runs, while also scoring three times in a 9-6 win over Conwell-Egan.

Colin Bolla, Fairview baseball

Tossed 6.2 innings, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out 13 in a 3-1 win over East Allegheny in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Dominic Capperella, Bellefonte baseball

Had a pair of hits, including a homer, and five runs driven in as the Raiders beat Greater Latrobe 10-9 in the first round of the Class 4A tournament.

Julio Ermigotti, Central Bucks West baseball

Tossed a perfect game with nine strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Wilson in the Class 6A playoffs.

Elizabeth Gaisior, Juniata softball

Tossed a one-hitter as the Indians beat Burrell 1-0 in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs. She walked a pair and struck out 18. In the quarterfinals, she struck out 15 in a 6-1 win over Avonworth.

Devin Gruver, West Middlesex baseball

In a 12-2 win over Union Area in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, he went 3-for-4 with a triple and homer and drove in four runs.

Marla Freiwald, Blue Mountain softball

In the quarterfinals of the Class 4A playoffs, she fired a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts in a4-0 win over Jersey Shore.

Breanna Hanley, Sharpsville softball

Both of her hits went for homers and she drove in three runs as the Blue Devils beat Moniteau 15-4 in the first round of the Class 2a playoffs.

Dane Harvey, Southern Fulton baseball

In an 8-3 win over California in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, the senior provided most of the offense with a pair of homers and six RBIs.

Hailey Irwin, Northern York softball

Went 2-for-3 with a pair of homers and five RBIs as the Polar Bears defeated Hatboro-Horsham 13-0 in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Kingston Krotec, Hopewell baseball

The freshman threw a complete game shutout in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs in a 3-0 win over Northern Lebanon. He allowed just four hits and walked none while striking out a pair.

Sammy Magee, Northern York softball

In the Class 5A quarterfinals, she went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and also threw a two-hit shutout with eight strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Upper Dauphin Area in six innings.

Kaitlyn Molitoris, Montour softball

In the Clss 4A quarterfinals, she twirled a five-hitter and struck out 14 as Montour defeated Archbishop Wood 5-0. 

Sam Myers, Greenwood baseball

In the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, he went the distance for a shutout in an 8-0 win over Meyersdale. He gave up four hits and no walks while striking out 10.

Gianna Poletti, Tri-Valley softball

In her three plate appearances in a 15-0 win over Dock Mennonite in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs, the senior hit a pair of home runs and drove in five.

Brittany Rice, Tri-Valley softball

The senior went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a homer and four RBIs as the Bulldogs beat Old Forge 10-1 in the class 1A quarterfinals.

Maranda Runco, Mid Valley softball

In a 7-1 win over Warrior Run in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, the senior tossed a four-hitter with 14 strikeouts. She also helped her own cause at the plate with pair of homers and four RBIs.

Alizabeth Schuler, South Williamsport softball

The sophomore had a day in a 15-0 three-inning win over Newport in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. At the plate, she was 3-for-3 with a homer and five RBIs. In the circle, she tossed three one-hit innings and struck out three with one walk. And then in the quarterfinals, she threw a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in a 10-0 win over Bristol.

Rachael Schumann, Downingtown East softball

In a 6-0 win over Central Dauphin in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, she went the distance and allowed just a pair of hits and three walks while striking out 13.

Tyler Serb, Bald Area Eagle baseball

In a 6-0 win over Karns City in the Class 4A quarterfinals, he went the distance and gave up just three hits and struck out nine. 

Henry Shaffer, Saegertown baseball

Threw a no-hitter in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs as the Panthers beat Bishop Canevin 6-0. The senior walked four and struck out nine.

Julia Shearer, North Penn softball

Was almost perfect in a 3-1 win over Governor Mifflin in the Class 6A first round. She allowed just one hit and one run while striking out 18. The only blemish was a homer in the sixth inning. And then in the quarterfinals, she tossed a five-inning two-hitter in an 18-0 win over Hazleton Area and also hit a homer and drove in four runs.

Nick Shiffler, Father Judge baseball

In a 6-2 win over Plymouth Whitemarsh in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs, he was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, two homers and three RBIs.

Avery Smiach, Forest Hills softball

In a 3-1 eight-inning win over Upper Dauphin Area in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, she went the distance and allowed just the one run on four hits and one walk while striking out 11.

Tayten Yoder, Bald Eagle Area baseball

The junior had three hits including a homer and a triple and knocked in five runs as the Bald Eagles beat McConnellsburg 10-4 in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
