Many of the nation's top 2023 football prospects are beginning to trim their lists to small groups of semifinalists.

And in the case of Long Beach Poly consensus four-star cornerback Daylen Austin, his recent cut to eight was significant, as the California defensive back had amassed 25 scholarship offers.

On Thursday, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback announced a top eight of Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State and USC:

Austin is rated the nation's No. 15 cornerback in the 247Sports composite rankings, making him the No. 1 uncommitted player at his position on the West Coast.

Expect his recruitment to remain fierce until he announces a verbal commitment.

That said, USC may have the inside edge and should be considered the team to beat.
