2022 NFL Draft recruiting rewind: Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson to Detroit Lions
Projected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft throughout the process, Michigan defensive end Aidan Hutchinson ended up going No. 2 overall to the Detroit Lions.
During his recruitment, Hutchinson was always likely to wind up at Michigan, as he was an in-state prospect out of Divine Child High School, and his father, Chris Hutchinson, played for the Wolverines.
As it turns out, he'll spend the start of his NFL career at home as well.
Here's a look at how Hutchinson was ranked as a high school football prospect by 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN.
Ranking: 4-star recruit; Nation's No. 88 overall prospect, No. 5 edge-rusher, No. 1 prospect in Michigan
Notable: 2021 NFL first-round pick Odafe Oweh (Baltimore Ravens) was rated as the nation's No. 4 edge-rusher - one spot ahead of Hutchinson.
Ranking: 4-star recruit; Nation's No. 129 overall prospect, No. 8 strong-side defensive end, No. 2 prospect in Michigan
Notable: Rivals listed Michigan State cornerback Kalon Gervin as the prospect in Michigan.
In the positional rankings, Hutchinson and Oweh were Nos. 8 and 9 nationally, but have been the two most productive players in the class.
Ranking: 4-star prospect; Nation's No. 193 overall prospect; No. 22 defensive end
Notable: ESPN was - by far- the lowest on Hutchinson, but all three services billed him as a bluechip prospect.
Hutchinson's athleticism didn't jump off the page to some, and he was dinged slightly for that, but all three services believed he had the size, strength and technique necessary to be a disruptive force in the Big Ten.
