When Fairmont Preparatory Academy (California) disbanded its football program in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, it didn't seem like a path toward an elite football recruitment.

But 247Sports four-star defensive end/tight end Collins Acheampong isn't your typical prospect.

As a freshman, the now-6-foot-7, 230-pound jumbo athlete racked up 51 tackles, 15 tackles-for-loss and nine sacks.

While he hasn't played much organized football since, Acheampong has amassed a huge amount of recruiting interest, racking up 14 scholarship offers.

Last month, Acheampong trimmed his list to a final six and announced a commitment date of July 1.

Schools that made the cut? Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Oregon, UCLA, USC and Washington.

Hoping to gather more information before making a decision, the California product announced he will be visiting the University of Oregon this weekend.

Analysis

Acheampong remains a bit of an unknown as a true football prospect, but the ceiling is obviously very intriguing given his bend, athleticism and frame.

The football/basketball player has generated a four-star ranking despite limited experience, which speaks to his projection.

Just don't expect Acheampong to play immediately - he'll need some time to learn the finer points of playing either tight end or defensive end in college.
