Prediction: Mississippi State to land dynamic Texas playmaker
The Mississippi State football program has a solid start to its 2023 recruiting class.
Mike Leach and his coaching staff have three early pledges, highlighted by a pair of in-state four-star prospects: Laurel High School offensive tackle Malik Ellis and Bay Springs athlete Ty Jones.
Before the month is over, however, the Bulldogs appear poised to add a dynamic running back into the fold.
Prediction: Seth Davis to Mississippi State
Katy High School (Texas) star Seth Davis is set to announce his commitment May 23 and is down to a final five of California, Mississippi State, Missouri, Vanderbilt and Utah.
But with a little over a week to go, the 5-foot-8, 175-pound back had high praise for the Bulldogs, stemming from his visit this spring.
"I like the town. I visited there," he said. "The town, the coaches, the football team... when I went on my visit and went to one of the spring practices they welcomed me. All of the running backs came over and introduced themselves. It was a great time."
Given that strong endorsement - and his infatuation with the idea of playing in the SEC at the collegiate level - it appears that Davis is destined for a future in Starkville.
That's good news for the Bulldogs.
Over the past two seasons, Davis has amassed 4,047 yards and 45 touchdowns on the ground, highlighted by a 2,422-yard, 28-touchdown campaign as a junior.
He is rated a three-star prospect and the nation's No. 36 running back.
Should he, in fact, choose Mississippi State, he should be a welcomed addition to the running back room.
