Jackson Shelstad, Oregon Ducks commit, staying at West Linn; Grant's Adrian Mosley transfers in to form dynamic duo

Not long ago, the West Linn High School boys basketball program was staring at a head coaching vacancy and the possibility of losing Oregon 6A player of the year Jackson Shelstad to a high-profile national program.

Fast forward to Monday, and a lot has changed.

West Linn has hired longtime PIL coach Robert Key to run the program — and West Linn has a new dynamic duo. 

Not only does Shelstad intend to stay, but Grant standout and reigning PIL player of the year Adrian Mosley has transferred to West Linn and is already enrolled at the school. 

For Shelstad, the decision to stay at West Linn came after an offseason in which he strongly considered transferring to Montverde Academy (Florida), Link Academy (MissourI) or AZ Compass Prep (Arizona). 

"We were looking at all three of them, but with Coach Key getting the job, I'm all-in with West Linn," Shelstad said. "It means a lot. Coming up, I wanted to be a top basketball player. Getting to that point and getting to finish it out at West Linn, I couldn't ask for anything better. 

"I'm going to Oregon next year, so I get to be a hometown hero." 

Last season, Shelstad averaged 27 points, 5.5 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 steals per game on his way to earning Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year honors. 

He is committed to the University of Oregon and is rated the nation's No. 53 overall prospect. 

Shelstad will be joined by Mosley, a first-team all-state selection who is one of the top basketball prospects in the state.

West Linn should be considered the favorite to win the 6A crown next season, a sentiment that seemed very much in doubt until recently.
