Recruiting roundup: Ducks flip key Oklahoma pledge; Washington, UCLA poised for big May

The Oregon Ducks flipped an Oklahoma pledge, Washington secured a pair of new recruits and UCLA appears poised to add two major in-state targets.

It was a busy weekend on the recruiting trail and several schools capitalized. 

Here's a look at the top recruiting stories of the past few days

Just a week after running a wind aided 10.16 100 meter dash, Gardena Serra junior Rodrick Pleasant ran a wind legal 10.14 to break the California state record on Saturday at the Southern Section Masters Meet.

- Oregon commit Jackson Shelstad staying at West Linn; PIL player of the year Adrian Mosley transfers in

Not only does Shelstad intend to stay, but Grant standout and reigning PIL player of the year Adrian Mosley has transferred to West Linn and is already enrolled at the school.

"Right before I was getting ready to leave, (Long) went to go get Coach Lupoi and they both stood in front me, talked for a bit, then said they really like me as player and what I could do on the field and I have a place in their program," he said. "Then there was silence and I said, 'Wait, does that mean what I think it does?' and they said, 'Yes, we'd like to offer you a full-ride scholarship to the University of Oregon.'"

The still-growing 6-foot-2, 170-pound athlete holds more than 20 scholarship offers, highlighted by Florida State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, Utah and many others.

"I committed to Washington because it was the best fit for me and I love it there," he said.

- Fast-rising California quarterback Aidan Chiles has high praise for Washington, Oregon State 

After extending an offer, the Oregon Ducks have joined Oregon State and Washington as a program of interest, but Chiles has yet to set up a visit to Eugene.

Others schools, he said, are positioning to get visits.

"All three of those schools are definitely in the mix, but there's other schools, too," he said. "I want to see Washington State. Kansas State is in there, too."

Chip Kelly's squad is a finalist for both Lincoln four-star running back Roderick Robinson and Mater Dei Catholic four-star linebacker Tre Edwards.

Fresh off an official visit to UCLA - his second trip - Robinson announced that he is shutting down his recruitment.

That's immediately a good indicator for the Bruins.

But on Monday, Edwards indicated he is ready to make a decision, announcing a Friday commitment date as well as four finalists: Arizona, California, Oregon and UCLA.

"They are, no doubt, a serious contender in my recruitment, and I can't wait to keep furthering my relationship with them," Lagway said.

- Seth Davis, Texas all-state running back, commits to Mississippi State

“I’m going to Mississippi State, because of all of the great coaches, a great town, great football fans… it’s a great football school,” he said. “They have a really good engineering program, and that’s what I want to major in.”

“It feels extremely good to have received my first offer,” Batiste said. “I had watched everyone around me receive their offers and I just waited my turn.”
