The Miami Hurricanes have immediately accelerated the recruiting effort under first-year coach Mario Cristobal.

Part of that is laying the groundwork in future classes.

On Friday, class of 2024 elite athlete KingJoseph Edwards, the nation's No. 12 overall prospect, will be visiting Miami (Fla.) and is excited to connect with Cristobal and his coaching staff.

"(Cristobal is) serious about building a football program to win," he said. "The university is a private school with small classroom sizes. That's a plus, academically. Traditionally, Canes have a strong football program. I’m eager to get there and meet the staff, learn more about the program and speak with the coaches."

Edwards is a jumbo athlete who projects at either tight end or edge-rusher and is rated the nation's No. 3 athlete.

The 6-foot-3, 242-pound playmaker already holds more than 30 offers, highlighted by Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and others.

Here's what 247Sports had to say about Edwards as a prospect:

"A potential game changer on both sides of the ball. Viewed by some college recruiters as a pass rusher at the next level and others as a tight end. Turned heads at both positions the spring/winter following sophomore season as he dominated both elite camps and 7-on-7 tournaments. Already looks the part as he’s over 6-foot-4 and over 235 pounds. Thick throughout the torso, but in a good way. Should only continue to add mass over the next few years. Still learning how to formulate a game plan and attack a quarterback on a consistent basis, but initial burst and ability to dip/bend tends to cause plenty of issues for opposing offensive tackles. When it comes to the catching passes, has shown time and time again that he can not only win 50-50 shots in the corner of the end zone, but also create separation on drag routes over the middle. Will eventually need to settle on one position, but should be viewed as one of the top mid skill athletes in the 2024 cycle given how he moves for someone his size. Ceiling might ultimately be highest as a stand-up edge player in a 3-4 front, but does have some of the required tools to emerge as a difference maker at tight end."
