Aidan Chiles, nation's No. 27 quarterback, commits to Oregon State Beavers, plans early enrollment

Downey High School (California) quarterback Aidan Chiles was all set to commit to Oregon State on June 1.

Behind the scenes, that was his plan.

But then the 6-foot-4, 195-pound signal-caller added offers from Oregon and Washington and he backed off those plans.

Subsequent offers from Kansas State and Washington State even further solidified Chiles' plans to wait on a decision.

But over the weekend, the nation's No. 27 quarterback took his official visit to Corvallis.

And almost immediately he decided he was ready to end the process.

"It was clear that I wanted to be there on my first unofficial visit, but the official visit sealed the deal," he said.

On Thursday, Chiles announced his commitment to the Beavers:

For the rising California quarterback, seeing his family interact with the Beavers coaching staff sealed the deal. 

"The visit was about us," Chiles said. "My grandpa was having fun, my mom, my dad, my brother. It's a staff that's been together for a minute and it's a staff that can win together."

Adding to his assurance that Oregon State was the right place, he indicated the coaching staff never tried to negatively recruit the schools who had recently offered.

Instead, the message remained the same: Oregon State's football program is a close-knit group that is ready to win games. 

"First of all, every time I talked to them it was about family," Chiles said. "They didn't compare to other schools, they talked and me and them and how we were going to be a family."

Chiles plans to graduate early and enroll in March.

He is the fourth commitment in Oregon State's class, joining a pair of Washington three-star tight ends, Cooper Jensen and Dorian Thomas, as well as Florida three-star edge-rusher Zakaih Saez.
