David Wells, Lakes 3-star wide receiver, commits to Oregon State Beavers

Lake High School (Washington) wide receiver David Wells grew up watching Pac-12 Conference football.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound pass-catcher dreamed of playing at the Power 5 level as a child.

Prior to this weekend's official visit to Oregon State University, Wells received an opportunity to do just that, as Jonathan Smith and his coaching staff extended him a scholarship offer.

On Sunday, he seized that opportunity, committing to the Beavers over offers from Colorado State, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Montana, Nevada and several others:

“I was on my visit and I really liked it, so I thought I’d do it (Sunday)," he said. "I called my coaches up and they were all for it, so I made my commitment. It means a lot. I always grew up watching the Pac-12. That’s where I always wanted to play.”

Although Wells only recently got his offer, he's built a relationship for much longer with wide receiver coach Kefense Hynson. 

"He has a plan," Wells said. "He had it all planned out - how I’m going to fit into his offense. They run an offense that is suited for the NFL." 

Of course, it was the feeling on his official visit that finally sealed his fate. 

“It was great," Well said. "I loved it. I love Corvallis. I’ve been there before, but it was good to make sure my mom got to see it. She loved it.”

With Wells in the fold, Oregon State has five commitments in its 2023 recruiting class, three of which have come in the month of June - Florida three-star edge-rusher Zakaih Saez and California three-star quarterback Aidan Chiles.

For the second consecutive year, the Beavers have had a quiet spring give way to a flurry of summer commitments.

More could very well be on the way this month for Smith's program.
