>>> UPDATE: Spencer Shannon commits to Texas Longhorns

Mater Dei High School (California) athlete Spencer Shannon has seen enough.

The 6-foot-7, 240-pound jumbo pass-catcher, rated the nation's No. 23 tight end, is ready to announce his commitment in the coming days.

Shannon had taken official visits to UCLA and Washington, but took his third and final trip over the weekend, checking out the University of Texas.

"I'm ready to commit this week," he said.

Keeping his cards close to the vest, Shannon did not set an official commitment date or go into too much detail about his finalists.

But he did enjoy his trip to Texas.

“My Texas visit was awesome,” he said. “The thing that stood out was probably getting to talk to the players, because it was good to hear that they like the staff and that the staff was straight-shooters and they don't want to waste time. They want to be forward and honest, which was good to hear from the players.”

Still, he was quick to point out all three of his finalists had compelling cases and plan to use him in a variety of ways on offense.

“At all three schools it’s pretty similar," he said. "They all want to use me as an in-line guy who they can also split out.”

Expect a decision soon from one of the top tight end prospects on the West Coast.
