Could Oregon Ducks land 5-star quarterback, running back in historic football recruiting class?

It has been a wild week on the recruiting trail, as many of the nation's top prospects have come off the board over the past several days.

But while the Oregon Ducks is coming off a massive visitor weekend, Dan Lanning's "progrum" hasn't experienced that surge.

At least, not yet.

Oregon's class is rated No. 27 nationally, but it is beginning to feel inevitable that major push is coming.

And that effort may be headlined by what the Ducks can bring in at quarterback and running back.

Over the weekend, Oregon hosted Michigan five-star quarterback Dante Moore, the nation's No. 8 overall prospect, and Florida five-star running back Richard Young, the nation's No. 2 ball-carrier.

Could a dynamic five-star duo be brewing in Eugene? 

Oregon looks to be in great shape for Moore, who would be the highest-rated quarterback commit in program history.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound passer, out of Martin Luther King Jr. High School (Detroit, Michigan), was once thought to be a near-lock to Notre Dame.

But Moore's whirlwind recruitment comes back to this fact - he's taken official visits to only LSU and Oregon so far, and just made a return trip to Eugene on his own dime.

In the wild NIL era things can change quickly, Oregon fans should be encouraged by the growing "Moore to Oregon" buzz that's building. . 

To put his potential commitment in prospective, Ty Thompson was a five-star recruit only on Rivals and was listed as the nation's No. 40 overall prospect in the composite rankings (combined rankings of the major recruiting services) and as low as No. 81 overall by 247Sports. Moore, on the other hand, is a consensus five-star prospect who is rated the nation's No. 12 overall prospect.

If, in fact, that were to happen, it would be a major addition for Lanning's crew. 

The Ducks have publicly swung and missed with a few of the nation's top quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting cycle, most notably Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee), Jaden Rashada (Miami), but Moore would immediately salve those wounds.

Further, the Michigan product may be the last true superstar quarterback still uncommitted nationally, meaning the drop-off that would follow a third major miss could be significant for Oregon.

As for Young, the Florida five-star ball-carrier, Oregon received his last official visit, following trips to Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame and Georgia.

That could help significantly, but the current industry buzz favors Alabama. 

How much did Oregon do to disrupt the Crimson Tide's momentum?

It's too soon to tell, but it's worth keeping an eye on at this point, especially if Moore were to commit to the Ducks and persuade elite talent to come with him to Eugene.

Oregon's class currently sits outside the top-25 nationally.

But that won't be the case for long.
