Prediction: Oregon Ducks to land 5-star quarterback Dante Moore

The Oregon Ducks appear poised to land a five-star quarterback in the class of 2023 after all.

Despite missing out on Nico Iamaleava (Tennessee) and Jaden Rashada (Miami), Dan Lanning and his coaching staff, most notably offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham, have continued to recruit the nation's best at the quarterback position.

And it looks like it will pay off.

Prediction: Dante Moore to Oregon Ducks

While the early buzz indicated Moore was a likely Notre Dame lean (with Michigan possibly lurking), things have cooled there and Oregon has entered the picture full force.

The  6-foot-2, 195-pound signal-caller had a great official visit to Eugene in the spring, then took a return trip over the weekend during which he met Marcus Mariota.

Moore, the nation's No. 12 overall prospect, would easily be the highest-rated quarterback pledge in program history, surpassing Ty Thompson (No. 40 in 247Sports composite rankings; class of 2021).

But that doesn't truly highlight just how significant his commitment would be.

With nearly every major quarterback position locked in to their commitments, including recent decisions from Arch Manning (Texas) and Rashada (Miami), the drop-off between Moore and the "next man up" would be steep.

According to 247Sports, Moore projects as a future NFL first-round draft pick:

"Varsity starter since his freshman season. Has played well against top competition and in clutch situations in big games. Mature, polished, does not appear to rattle easily. Stands in against the rush and will deliver throws while taking hits. Does a nice job of reading coverages and does well throwing into windows against zone coverages. Throws with good touch down the field. Can fire it in there when he needs to. Has good arm strength but maybe not a big big cannon. Solid athlete who has added more mobility to his game as the years have gone on, but is not likely to be a big threat as a designed runner, but can do a little bit of that if needed. Physical traits are solid to good, but it is his intangible traits that are elite. Works extremely hard and that total package projects him to be a multi-year college starter and someone who can be an early draft choice." 

Moore, who hails from Martin Luther King Jr. High School (Michigan), has not yet set a commitment date, and a lot can change in the NIL era of college football, but as it currently stands, Oregon is stacking up as the team to beat for Moore.

Given that he's the last five-star signal-caller available, a decision is likely coming soon.

The Ducks are in a great position to secure his commitment.
