Jayden Wayne, 5-star edge-rusher, commits to Miami Hurricanes; Recruiting hot streak continues

The Miami Hurricanes are one of several programs who have shot up the recruiting class rankings in recent weeks.

And that trend continued Saturday, as IMG Academy (Florida) five-star edge-rusher Jayden Wayne announced his commitment to Miami over fellow finalists Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan State and Oregon.

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound defender is rated the nation's No. 30 overall prospect and No. 5 edge-rusher.

247Sports projects him as a future high NFL draft pick:

"Good 1st step and burst off the ball. Gains ground and causes the tackle to be immediately stressed by his penetration. Very good pad level which gives the defender little area to strike as he is rushing the passer or playing the run. Shows a good motor and want-to in chasing plays with nice lateral movement. Good agility and quickness, he is light on his feet and is a smooth effortless player. Rips off of blocks and does a good job in pursuit. With added strength and technique improvement he has all the tools you want in an elite defensive lineman. You are exposed to how good an overall athlete he is when you watch him play wide receiver." 

While Wayne is listed as a Florida prospect, as that is where he will spend his senior season, he recently moved from Washington, where he was the state's top prospect.

Similarly, elite tight end Riley Williams, the No. 1 prospect in the state of Oregon, recently transferred to IMG Academy and announced his commitment to the Hurricanes.

Those two commitments highlight Mario Cristobal's continued ties to the Northwest, where he previously coached the Oregon Ducks.

The Northwest bluechip pair has also  been joined recently by elite California quarterback Jaden Rashada, IMG Academy five-star offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa, Edison four-star wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph and Eau Gallie four-star athlete Robert Stafford.

In that time, Miami's recruiting class has jumped from outside the nation's top 30 to the No. 9 collection of talent in the country.
