Fresh off his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes, linebacker Malik Bryant is sky-high on the program's recruiting class.

Shortly after his announcement, the 6-foot-3, 225-pound athlete, rated the nation's No. 1 outside linebacker, predicted that Miami would finish No. 1 in the national recruiting rankings this cycle:

"We will have the number 1 recruiting class," Bryant wrote.

Miami's 15-man recruiting class currently ranks No. 8 nationally, but has surged in recent weeks, adding its top eight pledges since June 26.

Analysis

So, it is possible the Hurricanes finish No. 1?

It's a bad idea to bet against Mario Cristobal on the recruiting trail.

He produced historic classes at Oregon, earning the Pac-12 Conference recruiting crown all three of his full recruiting cycles there, an accomplishment the program hadn't achieved even once prior to his arrival.

Miami is the favorite to land five-star offensive tackle Samson Okunlola, which would send the Hurricanes to No. 5 in just one move.

Still, it may be tough to overtake No. 1 Ohio State, which has 19 pledges: 1 five-star commit, 16 four-star commits and 2 three-star pledges.

For that matter, No. 2 Notre Dame has a similar haul: 20 pledges, 1 five-star commit, 17 four-star commits, just 2 three-star pledges.

Miami, on the other hand, already has 6 recruits who carry the three-star distinction, and is likely to add a 7th with recent Florida offensive line de-commit Tommy Kinsler.

That may make it tough for the Hurricanes to climb all the way to No. 1, as three-star prospect don't carry the same point value in the recruiting service rankings.

Still, the pieces are in place for Miami's top 10 pledges to challenge anyone in the country for best "top of the class."

Depth, It seems, might be the only thing keeping the Hurricanes from rumbling their way to the top spot.
