Pittsburgh Panthers freshman guard and former elite basketball recruit Dior Johnson has been charged with assaulting a woman, according to Pittsburgh news station WTAE

Johnson is being charged with aggravated and simple assault, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment and strangulation stemming from an incident that occurred late September 5 and early September 6.

According to the criminal complaint, Johnson "slapped (a woman) across the face 'full force' causing her face to become 'very red and puffy' " after she allegedly got him and his phone wet.

At the time, Johnson took her phone and left, returning at 4 a.m. to give back the phone, which led to a second altercation in which Johnson allegedly would not allow the victim to leave.

"The argument continued for an hour before Johnson got violent and repeatedly punched (the woman) in her arms, stomach, and head multiple times," the complaint said.

The victim said she attempted to call 9-1-1, but Johnson chased her with scissors and hung up the phone, then attempted to call out of Pittsburgh basketball practice so he could keep her from seeking help.

Later, the victim went to the hospital, the report indicates, and was treated for a broken finger nail, bruising on her arms, scratches on her neck, bruising on her left collarbone and left shoulder and her chest.

Johnson, once rated the nation's No. 1 point guard, saw his stock drop significantly during the recruiting process, but he remained a top-50 prospect when he committed (and later signed) with Pittsburgh.

The 6-foot-3, 180-pound guard attended at least 10 different high schools during his prep career and was committed to both Syracuse University and the University of Oregon earlier in his high school career, but announced his decommitment from the Ducks in June.

However, sources close to Johnson's recruitment indicate that Oregon moved on from Johnson over off-the-court concerns.
