The Texas Longhorns' 49-0 blowout victory over Oklahoma was one of the nation's most notable results over the weekend.

And among future Texas football players, it was a moment to celebrate.

Edgewater High School (Florida) five-star prospect Cedric Baxter Jr., the nation's No. 1 running back, watched the game closely, paying particular attention to how Texas uses its playmakers.

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound back loved what he saw.

"I think the way they just used the backs speaks for itself and why I committed there," Baxter said.

Texas star Bijan Robinson rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries, but the Longhorns racked up a total of 50 carries in the contest - with five different players earning at least four totes.

After a win like that, it was enough for Baxter to ask a simple question of fellow recruits - and perhaps anyone who has ever questioned his decision.

"Why not Texas?"

Through five games this season Baxter has carried the ball 117 times for 1,066 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 9.1 yards per carry and 213.2 yards per contest.

The 2023 Texas recruiting class is ranked No. 5 nationally and is led by the stellar backfield duo of five-star quarterback Arch Manning and Baxter, but also features five-star safety Derek Williams and five-star wide receiver Johntay Cook II.
