Basha High School (Arizona) star Cole Martin is rated the nation's No. 5 athlete and has been committed to the Oregon Ducks since January 1.

But all along, the Louisville Cardinals have maintained their connection.

Martin visited in June, received an official offer this summer and took yet another visit over the weekend, leading to speculation - even amongst current Louisville commits - that the Oregon pledge may have flipped his commitment.

Indiana three-star offensive lineman and Louisville pledge Luke Burgess tweeted a selfie with three other players, two fellow pledges and Martin.

"3 commits in this photo, or wait, maybe four," he wrote, before tagging Martin. " I guess we will see."

But the recruitment is complicated.

Martin is the son of Oregon Ducks defensive back coach Demetrice Martin, so a flip would be somewhat surprising.

Sometimes sons like to carve their own path at the collegiate level, so Martin's possible flip wouldn't be unprecedented.

For its part, Louisville has done a remarkable job recruiting out West during the 2023 recruiting cycle, securing St. John Bosco stars Pierce Clarkson, DeAndre Moore Jr., Aaron Williams and Jahlil McClain, as well as Texas five-star running back Rueben Owens.

Could Martin be next?

It's clearly something to monitor.
