Julian Sayin, nation's No. 2 quarterback, had 'awesome' Alabama visit; Decision 'coming soon'

Carlsbad High School (California) star Julian Sayin is a five-star prospect and the nation's No. 2 quarterback in the class of 2024.

So, he's one of the nation's most coveted prospects.

Recently, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound gunslinger trimmed his list to a top three of Alabama, Georgia and LSU and announced that a decision could be coming soon.

But first, he had to take what could amount to a final visit to Alabama, which took place over the weekend.

Sayin, the nation's No. 14 overall prospect, said that trip - and Alabama's 30-6 win over Mississippi State - was a success. 

"It was awesome," he said. "I had a great time. The game was a great atmosphere, and I just had a great weekend. I hadn't been for a game, so it was fun to see."

Sayin, who had yet to experience an Alabama gameday as a recruit, spent part of Saturday morning with head coach Nick Saban and offensive coordinator/quarterback coach (Bill) O'Brien, then returned Sunday morning for a deeper discussion.

"We were able to talk about football and what makes Alabama special," he said. "So it was a great trip." 

Knowing this could be his last visit before making a decision, the California said he tried to experience Tuscaloosa without comparing it to Georgia or LSU.

"You try to make it independent - just kind of put everything aside and be in the moment," he said. "When you get back you start reviewing."

Sayin said he's reached the decision-making point in his recruitment. 

"I've seen everything I needed to see, and now it's about me talking with my close circle and making a decision," he said. "It's coming soon. It'll be soon." 

So far, Alabama and LSU don't have quarterback commitments in the class of 2024, while Georgia has already secured the pledge of Ryan Puglisi. 

The Crimson Tide and Tigers have both pitched to Sayin that he'd be the lone quarterback "take" in their respective classes, but that is not a major factor to the West Coast prospect.

"Those programs have talked about taking one - unless something crazy happens where they lose a bunch of guys," Sayin said. "They've both talked about just taking one. But it doesn't matter to me. I'd go somewhere where they took two and just compete. I'm not worried about that." 

Expect a decision from the five-star quarterback "soon."
