Sterling Dixon, nation's No. 6 linebacker, sets commitment date; Alabama, Auburn, LSU among top contenders

Mobile Christian School (Alabama) star Sterling Dixon, the nation's No. 61 overall prospect and No. 6 linebacker in the class of 2024, is ready to make his college decision.

On Tuesday, the 6-foot-3, 210-pound 'backer announced that he will be making his college commitment December 1:

While Dixon stopped short of trimming his list or announcing finalists, it is widely believed to be a battle of a handful of schools, namely Alabama, Auburn and LSU.

Fresh off a visit to Alabama for its 30-6 thrashing of Mississippi State, he had high praise for the Crimson Tide.

"Honestly, I loved it," he said. "The coaches showed me why they are the best program in the nation. It stood out to me a lot because they treated me right, treated my family right and treated me like a priority." 

Heading into the trip, the in-state prospect believed the Alabama visit could potentially be a game-changer in his recruitment.

However, he stopped short of expressing if, in fact, it made the difference.

Auburn and LSU are two other programs who are firmly in the mix for Dixon.

For Auburn, the recruitment has been a long process, one in which it has regularly expressed significant interest in the in-state defender. 

"Honestly, (I like) how they keep in touch and what they are doing," Dixon said. "They are trying to turn the program around, of course. I feel like I could just go in and play. And it's close to home."

LSU has also been a standout, and the early playing time factor could be in the Tigers' favor. 

"I love LSU," he said. "I can play super early, get on the field and I have a great relationship with the coaches, like (defensive analyst) Patrick Hill and (others)." 

No matter where he goes, Dixon intends to enroll early in the hopes of getting on the field more quickly.

"I really just want to get there and learn the playbook and learn how I'm going to be used in that system," he said. "I just want to make an early impact." 

Dixon is primarily being recruited as a Will linebacker, but said schools believe he can be a versatile pass-rusher as the collegiate level.
