Auburn Tigers lose first football commitment in wake of Bryan Harsin firing

The Auburn Tigers fired head coach Bryan Harsin on Monday, and the recruiting fallout has already begun.

Less than an hour after the news broke, Lakeland High School (Florida) three-star defensive lineman Gernorris Wilson announced his decommitment from the program.

"Due to the current circumstances I’ve decided to decommit from Auburn University," he wrote. "My recruitment is 1000% back open."

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound athlete, nicknamed "Sweettreat," is a three-star prospect, rated the nation's No. 73 interior offensive lineman.

Wilson also holds offers from Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, Oregon and others.

Typically when a head coach is fired there's an initial wave of decommitments, followed by a second wave when the new head coach is hired and makes changes to his staff.

During the recruiting process, recruits are often more closely tied to assistant/position coaches than the head coach, and until those moves are made the full fallout is not felt.

Auburn's 2023 recruiting class is ranked No. 55 nationally, evidence of the fact that many around the program felt a move might be coming.
