Jamel Howard recommits to Wisconsin; Marist (Illinois) defensive lineman chooses Badgers over Michigan, Miami, others

After de-committing from Wisconsin less than three months ago, Howard rejoined the Badgers' 2023 recruiting on National Signing Day

Jamel Howard is back in the fold for the Wisconsin Badgers.

Once a member of Wisconsin's 2023 recruiting class, the Marist (Illinois) defensive lineman de-committed in November but found his way back to the Badgers.

Howard, the No. 15 player in Illinois and a top 100 defensive lineman in the country for the class of 2023, announced Wednesday his recommitment to Wisconsin. The 6-foot-320-pound prospect chose the Badgers (again) over offers from Michigan, Miami, LSU and more.

Howard de-committed from Wisconsin after the team's previous head coach Paul Chryst was fired in the middle of the 2022 season. He took official visits to Michigan, Illinois, LSU, Ole Miss and Miami, in addition to a second official visit to Wisconsin following the hiring of Luke Fickell as head coach.

Howard is ranked No. 73 nationally at his position and No. 15 overall in the state of Illinois, according to 247Sports.
