Williams Nwaneri, nation's No. 3 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman, sets Oklahoma Sooners visit

Class of 2024 prospect Williams Nwaneri is rated the nation's No. 1 defensive lineman

One of the nation's top prospects is set to visit Norman soon.

On Monday, Lee's Summit North (Missouri) star Williams Nwaneri tweeted that he will be taking a visit to check out the Oklahoma Sooners on March 4:

The 6-foot-5, 245-pound versatile defender is rated the nation's No. 3 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman in the class of 2024 and projects as a future first-round NFL draft pick, according to 247Sports:

"...Was a good young prospect as a freshman and sophomore but showed big developmental strides on the field as a junior. Quickness off the ball and foot speed in pursuit were improved and those qualities of his are at a high national level. Used his hands better and when combined with his physical gifts, makes him very tough to block. Does not let offensive linemen get clean punches off on him and is able to turn himself and get skinny to help with that. Can shade inside or play on the EDGE and is going to be able to project to any defensive scheme. Based on his size, strongside end or 3-4 defensive end are where we project him although he is rare enough athlete that he can be edge pass-rusher at his size. If the development we saw between sophomore and junior year continues, he is an elite national prospect who will be an impact college player and early draft choice."

Nwaneri's stock has soared along with his development, as he's earned more than 30 scholarship offers, highlighted by Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, USC and others.

“Williams is a phenomenal player,” Broncos coach Jamar Mozee told SBLive Sports. “There’s so much upside to him, it’s almost scary. I haven’t seen anything like it in high school. From his build, physically, how he plays, his athleticism, it is different.”

Oklahoma signed the nation's No. 4 recruiting class during the 2023 cycle, but is still in search of its first 2024 pledge.

That 2023 haul could help in the recruitment of Nwaneri, as the Sooners signed Lee's Summit North teammate and four-star offensive lineman Cayden Green.

Could a pipeline be developing?

Oklahoma fans will certainly be rooting for that development.
