NCAA transfer portal update: Hansel Enmanuel one of several freshmen basketball stars to transfer

As the 2023 NCAA men's basketball tournament rolls into its second weekend, the transfer portal has started to heat up.

Nearly 700 college basketball players have already entered the transfer portal, including 141 freshmen. 

Headlining the top class of 2022 recruits to enter the portal are Hansel Enmanuel and former five-star Illinois commit Skyy Clark.

Here are the top 10 former class of 2022 boys basketball recruits who have decided to transfer after their first season of college basketball:

Amaree Abram - Southern California Academy (CA) - Ole Miss - CG

Abram, a 6-foot-4 190-pound freshman combo guard for the Ole Miss Rebels, entered the transfer portal this week. The former four-star recruit and the nation's No. 10 point guard in the class of 2022 averaged eight points, two rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes per game this season for the Rebels. Ole Miss also recently hired ex-Texas Longhorns head coach Chris Beard a couple of weeks ago. 

Denver Anglin - Gill St. Bernards (NJ) - Georgetown - PG

The former four-star recruit will transfer from the Georgetown Hoyas. Anglin, a 6-foot-1 185-pound guard, averaged 1.3 points, .4 rebounds and .4 assists in 6.8 minutes his freshman season. The Gill St. Bernards (NJ) standout was the No. 15 combo guard and No. 90 overall recruit in the class of 2022. In high school, Anglin was a part of the 1,000th career points club with 1,227 points. 

Fabio Basili - Oak Ridge High School (FL) - Louisville - SG

Basili, a former three-star recruit out of Oak Ridge High School (FL) will be transferring from the University of Louisville. This season, the 6-foot-4 175-pound guard averaged 1.6 points and 1.4 rebounds in 8.1 minutes in 17 appearances for the Cardinals. Basili was the nation's No. 52 overall prospect in the class of 2022 and also held offers from Kansas State, Chattanooga, DePaul and Florida Atlantic before committing to Louisville. 

Dom Campbell - Phillips Exeter Academy (NH) - Notre Dame - PF

In light of Mike Brey leaving, most of the Fighting Irish's freshmen have decided to enter the transfer portal. Campbell, a former four-star recruit and New Hampshire's top-ranked prospect in 2022, didn't see the floor much in his freshman year but has garnered various amounts of interest across the country. The 6-foot-9 268-pound power forward has heard from Penn State, Loyola Chicago, ECU, FGCU and others since entering the portal. 

Skyy Clark - Montverde Academy (FL) - Illinois - Louisville - PG 

The former four-star Montverde Academy (FL) product officially entered the transfer portal last week. However; it didn't take long before the Illinois freshman point guard got picked up in the portal by Louisville and Kenny Payne. The 6-foot-3 200-pound point guard averaged 7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 24.4 minutes per game for the Fighting Illini this season. Clark was the No. 37 overall prospect and No. 4 point guard in the class of 2022 and was also the highest-rated recruit ever to commit to the University of Illinois. Now, Clark will look to be the leader of a rebuilding Louisville Cardinals team next season. 

Hansel Enmanuel - Life Christian Academy (FL) - Northwestern State (LA) - CG

Enmanuel, a former three-star recruit and one-armed social media basketball phenom, has announced that he will transfer from Northwestern State. The 6-foot-6 175-pound combo guard averaged 1.7 points and 1.2 rebounds in his freshman season with the Demons. The former Life Christian Academy (FL) star was the No. 26 overall combo guard and Florida's No. 25 overall prospect in the class of 2022. Enmanuel has used his huge social media following (4.3 million followers total) to gain NIL deals with some of the top companies in the world such as Adidas, T-Mobile, Gatorade and others. 

Chauncey Gibson - Kimball High School (TX) - Clemson - CG

Gibson, a former three-star recruit and a top-20 prospect in Texas, has decided to transfer from Clemson. While the 6-foot-6 180-pound guard didn't see a lot of playing time this season, Gibson has tons of potential that are waiting to be tapped into depending on what program he goes to next. He has currently heard from Texas A&M, Arizona State, Santa Clara, NC State and others since going into the portal. 

Robert Jennings - Alliance of Christian Athletes (TX) - Texas Tech - PF

Previously ranked as a three-star recruit out of Alliance of Christian Athletes (TX), Jennings elected to transfer out of Texas Tech after head coach Mark Adams stepped down after making a racially insensitive comment to a player. The 6-foot-7 225-pound forward averaged 2.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per 8.8 minutes in his freshman season for the Raiders. The former No. 46 overall power forward in the class of 2022 has heard from Houston, Ole Miss, West Virginia, LSU, UNLV and others since entering the transfer portal. 

Kamari Lands - Hillcrest Prep (AZ) - Louisville - SF

Another player has decided to abandon ship from the Louisville Cardinals and enter the transfer portal after a very disappointing season. Lands, a former four-star recruit out of Hillcrest Prep (AZ) appeared in all 32 games this season while averaging 5.9 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-8 220-pound small forward was rated as the No. 64 prospect and Arizona's No. 5 overall recruit in 2022. Lands has already heard from Arkansas, St. John's, Oregon State, Towson and others since entering the portal. 

JJ Starling - La Lumiere School (IN) - Notre Dame - Syracuse - SG 

Starling, a former four-star recruit out of La Lumiere School (IN), decided to enter the transfer portal due to head coach Mike Brey stepping down at the end of the Fighting Irish's season. The 6-foot-4 200-pound combo guard was one of the best freshmen in the country this season, averaging 11.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in nearly 30 minutes per game for the Irish. Ultimately, Indiana's top-ranked overall recruit in the class of 2022 chose to commit to the Syracuse Orange and new head coach Adrian Autry. Syracuse was formerly a part of Starling's top-five schools. 

In recent news, it looks like Brey might be landing a new head coaching job - at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
