Peyton Woodyard, Georgia pledge and elite safety prospect, schedules Ohio State Buckeyes official visit

St. John Bosco (California) four-star safety Peyton Woodyard is rated as highly as the nation's No. 1 safety by Rivals

One of the biggest recruiting prizes in the class of 2024 came off the board in early January when St. John Bosco (California) safety Peyton Woodyard announced his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs.

Since that time, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound defensive back has been a vocal peer recruiter for Georgia - and has even built a connection with Pinnacle (Arizona) five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, the nation's No. 1 overall prospect and a massive  priority for the Bulldogs.

But it seems Rivals' No. 1 safety is willing to continue to look around.

On Thursday, Woodyard announced plans to take an official visit to check out the Ohio State Buckeyes on June 16:

He is also set to visit Georgia on June 2.

Evaluators are a bit split on Woodyard as a prospect.

All four major recruiting sites agree he is a true bluechip recruit, but while Rivals has him rated as the nation's No. 9 overall prospect, 247Sports (No. 106, No. 8 safety) and On3 (No. 225, No. 22 safety) list him a little lower.

When in doubt, check the offers.

There's very little question how top college football programs feel about the California star.

Despite an early commitment, Woodyard has racked up more than 30 scholarship offers, highlighted by Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, USC and others.

Here's what 247Sports had to say about Woodyard as a prospect:

"Natural safety who does everything well. Plays in a defense where he's asked to cover and play run support and does both very well. Shows good range and covers a lot of ground on the back end. He's a plus athlete who runs well and makes plays sideline to sideline. He's a solid tackler and will fly off the hash in run support and does a nice job wrapping up and rarely misses in a one on one situation. Natural leader and well respected by his peers. Tremendous off the field work ethic and a future captain at the next level. Also plays baseball but will focus on football in college."
