Former Duke signee Mackenzie Mgbako down to Indiana and Kansas

It's been almost a month since former Duke commit Mackenzie Mgbako requested to be released from his National Letter of Intent from the Blue Devils. 

Since then, the McDonalds All-American has been quite busy since re-opening his recruitment, as he's found himself traveling all over the country in search of his new home. 

Mgbako, a 6-foot-8 210-pound five-star small forward out of Roselle Catholic (New Jersey) has officially visited Kansas, St. John's and Indiana all within the last couple of weeks. 

Now, Mgbako is down to either Kansas or Indiana according to recruiting analyst Andrew Slater. 

The Jayhawks have gained traction over the past week as a potential front runner for Mgabko due to the recent signing of the No. 1 overall prospect in the transfer portal - Hunter Dickinson. 

With the addition of Dickinson, a 7-foot-1 versatile center from Michigan, the Jayhawks' frontcourt with Mgbako could be one of the best in the country in the upcoming season. That potential combined with head coach Bill Self's resume is an easy sell for any recruit to come to Lawrence. 

If Mgbako chooses Indiana, he will be joining a loaded 2023 recruiting class in Bloomington. The Hoosiers' incoming class is currently ranked No. 34 in the country and No. 4 overall in the BIG 10 conference. 

The Hoosiers picked up a big commitment in the transfer portal when they acquired former 2022 five-star recruit and Oregon 7-foot freshman center Kel'el Ware. Ware and Mgbako would make an extremely versatile frontcourt as well. 

Indiana's incoming class also consists of four-star guard Gabe Cupps, four-star combo guard Jakai Newton, and three-star transfers Anthony Walker and Payton Sparks. 

Mgbako was also slated to visit Louisville this weekend, but in light of the recent news he has since canceled his visit to the Cardinals. 

Louisville was a heavy favorite for Mgbako for the duration of the process due to his ties with now-Cardinals assistant coach Nolan Smith. Smith helped recruit Mgbako to Duke before joining Kenny Payne's staff this offseason. 

Mackenzie Mgbako and former Texas commit Ron Holland are the last class of 2023 recruits to remain uncommitted. 

Mgbako is ranked as the nation's No. 12 overall prospect in 2023, No. 5 small forward and New Jersey's No. 3 overall prospect according to On3.
