Cutter Boley, nation's No. 3 quarterback, commits to Kentucky Wildcats, reclassifies into 2024

The Kentucky Wildcats got their man.

On Thursday, Lexington Christian Academy (Kentucky) four-star prospect Cutter Boley, the nation's No. 3 quarterback in the class of 2025, announced his commitment to Kentucky, as well as plans to reclassify into 2024 and arrive on campus in January.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound signal-caller chose the Wildcats over Florida State, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee. 

"I'll be going to the University of Kentucky this January in the class of 2024," Boley said. "I'm going there because it's been my dream since I was a child. Watching Kentucky grow as it has since I was a kid going to games with almost nobody there to nearly being sold out. That's something I want to be a part of. I want to take Kentucky to the next level."

For the dynamic in-state quarterback, there was no singular moment in which he felt Kentucky was home.

Boley simply went through the entire process - visits and all - and listened to his gut. 

"It was just where my heart was at," he said. "I knew for a few months that I wanted to look in on a few schools that I was really interested in. But after I had gone and see all those places, I knew my heart was here at home at U-K."

There was a time, however, when that feeling faltered.

In the year offensive coordinator Liam Coen spent with the Los Angeles Rams, Boley had questions about the offense at Kentucky. 

What would they run? What would his relationship be like with the offensive coordinator? 

However, Coen's return kicked open the door for Boley to become a Wildcat. 

"Coach Coen kind of took it over the top," Boley said. "To be honest, it was a toss-up before coach Coen got back (from the NFL after one year). I didn't know what the offense was going to look like. But when he came we built that relationship back really fast. He spent a year in (Los Angeles) and we built that relationship back immediately. Coach (Mark) Stoops, too. They recruiting me really hard. Almost everybody in the coaching staff recruited me really hard."

Boley is one of the highest-rated prospects in program history and is the highest-rated in-state quarterback addition since legendary quarterback Tim Couch in the late-1990s.

The comparisons between the two are inevitable, and Boley is taking that in stride. 

"I would absolutely love to have the success he had at Kentucky," Boley said. "He was taken first overall in the NFL draft. That would be awesome. I know I'll get those comparisons. His son goes to our school, so I see Tim quite a bit and get advice. He's a really good guy. Being compared to him is awesome. He's the best quarterback to ever come to Kentucky." 

As a sophomore, Boley threw for 3,901 passing yards and 36 passing touchdowns.

Suddenly, he will have one more high school season before arriving on a college campus in January ready to compete for his place in the quarterback pecking order.
